Marike van Dijk: The Stereography Project feat. Jeff Taylor and Katell Keineg

Raccontare i suoni di New York attraverso testi e voce di chi ci vive—Jeff Taylor, vocalist balzato agli onori della cronaca nel tributo a David Bowie a opera di Donny McCaslin—e di chi vi ha vissuto per un tempo necessario ad assorbirne umori e colori—la cantante britannica Katell Keineg—amicizia con Jeff Buckley e collaborazione con Iggy Pop. A mettere su disco questa idea attraverso il progetto denominato Stereography è la sassofonista e compositrice olandese Marike van Dijk—residente anch'essa a New York per diversi anni—che assembla due sedute di registrazione e due formazioni differenti. La prima a New York nell'agosto 2016 con Jeff Taylor (nella versione in vinile la facciata A) la seconda ad Amsterdam nel marzo 2017 con Katell Keineg (la facciata B).

In entrambe le situazioni, con la sezione ritmica, troviamo voce e chitarra, un quintetto di fiati ed un quartetto di archi, ossia tutto il necessario per esaltare le undici composizioni del disco. E qui entra in gioco Marike van Dijk arrangiatrice, sorprendente nel modulare con grazia ed eleganza il potenziale sonoro a disposizione, di grande sensibilità nell'esaltare testi e melodie, meravigliosa nell'evitare ridondanze in favore di un sottile gioco di calembour timbrici. Vicina a stilemi pop rock la prima sessione, più enigmatica e audace la seconda, van Dijk riesce a creare un affresco composito e unitario i cui colori emergono in tutta la loro brillantezza ascolto dopo ascolto.
