Alexander McCabe: The Round
Round segna l'esordio discografico del sassofonista Alexander McCabe, gia' distintosi nella jazz band newyorkese diretta da Arturo O'Farrill nonche' al fianco di Ray Charles.

Il suo e' un progetto all'insegna della sintesi del miglior jazz moderno, attraverso cui il leader attualizza al meglio la tradizione del proprio strumento (Cannonball Adderley e Jackie McLean fra tutti), che dimostra di conoscere alla perfezione.

Le sue cinque composizioni, come pure le due di Steve Johns e Joe Barbato, rivelano al contempo un appassionato coinvolgimento emotivo nei confronti dell'estetica mainstream, fino a sfociare talora in una elegante routine.

Considerato nel suo insieme, Round presenta un tipo di jazz fresco e piacevole destinato ad attirare ampie fasce di jazzofili, che ne apprezzeranno un dinamico interplay e la fluidita' di fraseggio da parte del leader.

Incisiva ed efficace e' la prova della ritmica, in cui emerge la solidita' del contrabbassista Ugonna Okegwo, gia' brillante protagonista al fiando di Tom Harrell nel suo eccellente Live At Village Vanguard.
