This episode of One Man's Jazz has bookends of much contrast, from the opening set of music featuring trumpeter Jaimie Branch to the closing pair of tunes locked in the transcendental mode of Alice Coltrane from one of her disciples, Surya Botofasina. In between, there's some great stuff highlighted by new releases from the poetry and improvisation of The Red Microphone, saxophonist Devin Daniels , a preview of bassist Trevor Dunn's new album for Pyroclastic, and Argentinean drummer Nicolas Politzer with an outstanding trio. Also on the bill, a couple from Toronto drummer Joe Sorbara's Oval Window label.
