La musica si ciba del linguaggio jazzistico ma spesso scivola verso un easy listening ben confezionato ma non particolarmente memorabile. Gli assoli sono eleganti e convincenti ma spesso annegano nel contesto poco vigoroso. Non si capisce bene da che parte soffi il vento dell'ispirazione. Quel che resta è un bel catalogo che mette in vetrina le meraviglie della casa, ma poco più.
Potendo contare su Geri Allen, Cassandra Wilson, Esperanza Spalding, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ingrid Jensen, Patrice Rushen e tante altre era lecito attendersi più coraggio e meno melassa. Ma forse è la nostra visione maschile (più che maschilista) a non cogliere le prelibatezze raffinate che non riusciamo a scorgere. Andremo dal medico e ci faremo dare una bella cura.
