Exegesis: The Harmony of the Anomaly

Gli Exegesis sono nati nel 2001 con l'idea di portare avanti un progetto complesso che lega il jazz all'elettronica, con la sensibilità della nuova musica e dei nuovi territori. Non ci sono radici particolarmente evidenti nel lavoro di questo trio guidato dal chitarrista Nick Demopoulos. Le composizioni sono tutte originali, divise abbastanza equamente fra il chitarrista e il bassista Danton Boller, le vere menti creative del gruppo. Lo scenario che dipingono è piuttosto inusuale, da realtà virtuale ricostruita in laboratorio con l'aiuto di mega computer.

In alcuni casi il batterista abituale Tomas Fujiwara è sostituito da altri colleghi e in un paio di brani ritroviamo la voce della brava Gretchen Parlato, una vocalist che si sta distinguendo sulla scena movimentata del jazz moderno. La sua voce eterea è un giusto complemento a questi brani così lunari, così lontani da sensibilità terrene. Anomalie da tenere d'occhio.
