Samuel Katarro: The Halfduck Mystery
La controprova a suo vantaggio è però data da The Halfduck Mystery. Se c'è un'ombra blues, in questo CD, questa è letteralmente metabolizzata nei rigurgiti psichedelici che sporcano come cenere vulcanica le 10 tracce del disco. Colonna sonora immaginaria di un film mai girato di Tim Burton o di Terry Gilliam, il lavoro trita tutta la creatività anni '60 e dintorni (Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Byrds, Syd Barrett) con uno sguardo volutamente strabico e deformante.
Folk deragliato ("I Am the Musonator," "9V") e poi verniciato con cambi di registro vocali sulfurei e demoniaci ("Pink Clouds Over the Semipapero"). Il piglio è quello di una decostruzione della melodia, irridente e sorniona ("Pop Skull," "Three Minutes in California"), completa di arrangiamenti per oboe, flicorno e violoncello ("Rustling") che hanno attitudini avanguardistiche e dissonanti.
Bisognerà dare tutta la fiducia al ragazzo. Talento che sta mettendo a fuoco una visione sbracata, asimmetrica e scomposta delle regole del formato canzone. Sulle strade di un capolavoro, insomma.
