Christian McBride: The Good Feeling
Oltre allo swing vibrante che pervade in maniera positiva le atmosfere, sono diversi gli spunti di interesse che caratterizzano le undici tracce in programma. A cominciare dal ruolo svolto dal pianista Xavier Davis, figura di riferimento in diversi passaggi e ingranaggio fondamentale di un motore ritmico solidissimo e scintillante, sul quale poggia le basi la poderosa schiera di fiati, che rappresentano il motivo di maggiore attrazione espressiva dell'album. Le partiture sono di grande respiro melodico, e in alcuni momenti -vedi l'iniziale "Shake 'n Blake" -si avverte una piacevole tensione tra band e solisti in un continuo alternarsi di poli d'attrazione melodica. A ben figurare è anche la vocalist Melissa Walker: una voce profonda e d'impatto che segna a fuoco la favolosa "When I Fall in Love," aperta dall'archetto di McBride, una ballata piena di sentimento con la quale fa il paio l'ondeggiante "The More I See You."
Disco importante e imponente, sia nelle forme che nei contenuti, che si lascia ascoltare con molto piacere per l'interezza dai suoi settanta minuti, e che si pone a tutto diritto tra gli esempi migliori di una tradizione favolosa e imprescindibile.
