Mike Monford: The Cloth I'm Cut From (Live at Cliff Bell's)
C'è molta luce, ovviamente molto ritmo (e anche un po' di verbosità, fin dal primo assolo di sax alto), in quanto segue, una musica muscolare (non senza qualcosa di più morbido, tipo "Piercing Eyes," dello stesso Monford, che vi declama pure), di buonissima fattura e scarsissima originalità, capace di coinvolgere anche un cospicuo numero di solisti, tutti grammaticalmente ferrati, ma a loro volta con identità piuttosto impalpabili.
Di dischi così, belli ma con poca anima (parafrasando Cocciante), ne arrivano fin troppi del nostro lettore, per cui ci scuserete se tagliamo corto senza addentrarci oltre nelle pieghe di questo ennesimo lavoro che preferisce una mostra del sé (in senso lato) abbastanza vacua allo scavo per cercare di scoprirsi dentro qualcosa che magari c'è, ma magari anche no.
