Anouar Brahem: The Astounding Eyes of Rita
Il mix di musicisti sembra funzionare piuttosto bene: il clarinetto basso di Gesing si complementa bene all'oud, riportando alla memoria i duetti strumentali già sperimentati tra Brahem e Surman in Thimar, ma la vera novità sta nella ritmica, dove alle percussioni tradizionali si affianca il basso agile e brillante di Meyer, che fornisce un accompagnamento dinamico e originale allo stesso tempo arricchendo la struttura armonica dei brani.
Le atmosfere delle composizioni di Brahem rimangono improntate a un intimismo vagamente malinconico, ma contemporaneamente leggero e brioso, e l'equilibrio complessivo è uno dei meriti maggiori che va riconosciuto alla musica, oltre che uno dei motivi principali che hanno contribuito alla riuscita finale del disco, dedicato al poeta palestinese Mahmoud Darwish scomparso nel 2008.
