Ela Masiak

Starting with classical piano education background, Ela Masiak has gained her first experience in jazz at the international jazz workshops. She graduated from Krakow School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at the jazz vocal class under the great Polish jazz vocalist Marek Balata. Ela was awarded at the jazz contests organized by the Polish Jazz Association: International Jazz Vocalists' Competition in Zamosc and Sing-Jazz-Blues in Lomza. Ela is also a psychologist, she wrote her PhD thesis in music psychology about Polish jazz community. Besides performing her jazz repertoire, she also uses jazz and improvisational music in her clinical work in music therapy.

Blanche Calloway

Born: February 9, 1902

Blanche Calloway was a popular singer and bandleader during the 1930s. She studied music at Morgan State College before dropping out to pursue a career in show business. Her big break came in 1923 when offered a part in a musical touring company. Her vocal talents quickly made her a spotlight entertainer, and she began working nightclubs across the country. In the mid- and late 1920s she recorded for Okeh and Vocalion, including a 1925 session with Louis Armstrong. She also worked with her brother bandleader Cab Calloway. Joan Clarke

Karen Benjey

Karen Benjey was born in Toledo Ohio, hometown of jazz legend, Art Tatum. Introduced at an early age to stride piano by her mother, Karen says, “I knew from age three that I would become a singer. My mother’s playing at home was a very strong influence on me. She worked in local clubs and rehearsed at home with her own band for years. During this period, there was music all around me. I was also very influenced by my own era of pop music, the black soul and R & B artists of nearby Detroit.” Like others pre-destined by their natural talents and instincts, Karen followed her own heart-felt path to assert her individual vocal style
