Van Morrison

Born: August 31, 1945

Van Morrison was born in Belfast in 1945, the son of a shipyard worker who collected American blues and jazz records. Van grew up listening to the music of Muddy Waters, Mahalia Jackson, Lightnin' Hopkins and John Lee Hooker. Surrounded by every kind of musical influence - country, blues, jazz, and folk - from 13 he was playing guitar, sax and harmonica with a series of local Irish showbands, skiffle and rock'n'roll groups. By the time he rose to the fore of Britain’s nascent blues-rock scene as leader of Them, Morrison had already pulled years in the trenches, singing and playing with some of Belfast’s cagiest combos. His music has always incorporated the widely-varied influences he heard and absorbed since his childhood days on the streets of Belfast - long before the bands of his youth and his initial 1964 breakthrough with the band he formed, Them.

Kristen Cornwell

"The musician's singer", Kristen Cornwell enjoyed status as one of Australia's most respected jazz singers for over 10 years before moving to Belgium in 2004. A graduate in Jazz of the National Institute of the Arts at The Australian National University she was a MO Award nominee in the Jazz Vocalist Section for four years running and was a regular guest at Sydney's jazz clubs and festivals nationally. Since moving from Australia to Europe in 2004 Kristen Cornwell has fast been establishing herself in the jazz scene not only in Belgium but further afield with performances in Benelux, Germany, Ireland and South Africa

Andrea Moraes Manson

Andrea moved to the U.S. in 2000 and married trombonist/composer David Manson in 2002. Although trained as an architect, Andrea began singing with her husband in O Som Do Jazz, a Brazilian band based in Florida. With a strong voice, flawless phrasing and Brazilian sensibility, Andrea sings bossa nova & MPB as it should be sung. Her debut CD is "Infinita Bossa", produced in 2008.

Atlanta native Melanie Massell has been charming audiences since childhood with her powerful voice and charisma. After majoring in theater and performing arts (Atlanta’s Northside High School of Performing Arts and Florida State University’s School of Theatre), she began her extensive and successful entertainment career by touring nationally and internationally as a vocalist with bands of many genres. R'kardo

Born: September 3, 1974

Singer/ songwriter r’kardo grew up in the sunny isle of Trinidad where his passion for music and performance was developed by an eclectic exposure to different musical genres from the early age of 8. From learning to play the recorder, progressing to classical guitar by 12, then school plays to a gospel choir, individual performances in music festivals and recitals, this young man relentlessly trained and honed his craft; working with acclaimed british musicologist Geraldine O’Connor, and Stella award winning songwriter Sterling Gittens. This progression culminated in a Musical Theatre degree (with an emphasis on jazz performance) from Manhattans Marymount College and training with Musical Theatre Works Tony nominated director Lonny Price. Eric Burdon

Founding member and vocalist of the Animals, a band originally formed in Newcastle in the early 1960s. The Animals were one of the leading bands of the "British Invasion", and the band had worldwide following. Along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five, and Gerry and The Pacemakers, they introduced British music and fashion to an entire generation in an explosion of outspoken music and attitude, on and off the stage. I like to think of myself as a new, although not a young voice. Growing up in what was then called "Sugar Hill", in New York City, the strains of Big Band Jazz (my parent’s music), Be-Bop, Blues and Mambo could be heard everywhere. I sang, listened to and enjoyed the sounds of my generation, Rhythm and Blues, Soul, Latin and Doo Wop music: the sounds of Dizzy, Eckstein, Sinatra, Prysock, Noro Morales, Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan as well as the music of my mother's gospel choir filled our apartment. During my teens and as a young man in the Air Force, I sang with a number of vocal groups.
