The Lead Sheet: Twin Cities Live Jazz, May 20-26
I just returned from five days in New York, where I saw six shows at four venues. I need that overdose now and then, but I think we really have the ideal jazz scene here: lots of choices but seldom overwhelming, and the quality of the music is right up there with the Big Apple! We ...
Bassist Will Goble Releases "Consider The Blues" On OA2 Records On May 20th
For his second recording as a leader, bassist Will Goble is joined by drummer Dave Potter, his long-time rhythm section mate in Jason Marsalis' Quartet, master saxophonist Greg Tardy and the Atlanta-based pianist Louis Heriveaux. Through arrangements of compositions by Mary Lou Williams and George Gershwin, and originals inspired by the 2015 Nepali earthquakes, racial injustice, ...
Andy Milne and Dapp Theory at SOUTH Jazz Kitchen
by Mike Jacobs
Andy Milne and Dapp Theory SOUTH Jazz Kitchen Philadelphia, PA May 11, 2016 Venues can be a boon to a jazz show, or a detriment. Seeing Andy Milne and Dapp Theory in the moderately upscale (yet warm and inviting) digs at South turned out to be a huge ...
On Kaa Davis: X-Ray Search Light Project: Djuke Music
by Dave Wayne
Though he's logged considerable time in Sun Ra's Arkestra, Kenny Wolleson's Himalayas Collective, and groups led by Donald Ayler, Charles 'Bobo' Shaw, and Luther Thomas, On Kaa Davis is not just another avant-garde jazz dude. As a teenager, the Cleveland, Ohio native journeyed to Vienna, Austria, where he studied classical guitar at the Hochschule for Music ...
Matt Wilson’s Big Happy Family: Beginning of A Memory
by Mark Sullivan
For this mostly retrospective session drummer/composer Matt Wilson convened all of the members--past and present--of his longest established groups: the Matt Wilson Quartet, Arts & Crafts, and Christmas Tree-O. So it's not only a larger ensemble than usual, but also a melding of the different stylistic focuses represented by those projects. There are 13 players altogether, ...
Pianist Roberta Piket's "One For Marian: Celebrating Marian McPartland" To Be Released June 10
Marian McPartland’s creative output as a composer has been quite overshadowed by the late piano legend’s decades-long role as a beloved public radio host. Pianist Roberta Piket aims to help put that right with her new album One for Marian: Celebrating Marian McPartland, to be released by Thirteenth Note Records on June 10. “Roberta Piket is ...
(Living the Dream)
by John Kelman
While he's been living in Los Angeles for many years, Alex Machacek clearly values longterm musical relationships. While the majority of his recordings for the Raleigh, NC-based Abstract Logix imprint have seen the Austrian-born guitarist working with the likes of Jeff Sipe, Matthew Garrison, Neal Fountain and Gary Husband, his 2005 label debut, [sic], was notable--beyond ...

I 10 CD nel CD-Player di... Caroline Davis
by Vincenzo Roggero
01. Arthur Russell-Tower of Meaning (Chatham Square -1983).
Caroline Davis: Doors: Chicago Storylines
by Vincenzo Roggero
