Doug Pierce, an extremely gifted and talented composer/orchestrator, arranger and trumpeter hails from the motor city; Detroit, Michigan. Detroit is known for having produced some of the finest jazz musicians in the world. During his time in Detroit Doug has had the great opportunity to study with quite a few internationally recognized jazz musicians including Marcus Belgrave, Donald Walden, Rayse Biggs, Jimmy Wilkinson, Larry Smith, Kenneth Cox, Teddy Harris Jr., Russell Green and Herbie Williams. In the Fall of 1993 Doug continued his professional music studies with a two-year stint at Michigan State University's music program

Bob Merrill

BOB MERRILL is noted for his engaging vocal style, combined with great talent as a Jazz trumpeter, pianist, arranger and bandleader. His music has been heard around the world – at clubs and in concerts, in films and on television, and on recordings as a leader and sideman. Born and raised in Manhattan, he studied with Red Rodney as a teenager. While in college, Bob led the Harvard Jazz Band, performing regularly around New England and touring with them overseas. While earning his degree in music at Harvard, he also attended New England Conservatory, studying and performing with legendary pianist Jaki Byard and his Apollo Stompers Big Band

Nick Drozdoff

Nick Drozdoff is leading a double life, and has been doing so for as long as he can remember. While he majored in Electrical Engineering (graduating from Washington University with a BSEE), he continued his music studies playing trumpet in churches and big bands in the Saint Louis area. After settling in Chicago to work at Motorola he began playing in rehearsal bands around the Chicago area and playing at churches. He ultimately quit his job as a junior design engineer to pursue a career as a free-lance studio musician. In 1980, he received a call from Stu Ross, road manager for Maynard Ferguson

Keith Hedger

Keith Hedger began his professional career in Florida in the early 1970's. After spending several years playing a variety of musical styles around the Southeast, he moved to Boston in 1980. There, over the next decade, he played and recorded with various groups including Absolute Zero, debris, the Charlie Kohlhase Quintet, and KONK. It was during this period that he also started experimenting with electronic instruments and technologies. Upon returning to Florida in the mid -'90s Keith co-founded the group SHIM. With SHIM he recorded two CDs, 'SHIM' and 'Particle Zoo', and played numerous concerts around Florida

Cuong Vu

Cuong Vu is widely recognized by jazz critics as a leader of a new generation of innovative musicians. A truly unique musical voice, Cuong has lent his trumpet playing talents to a wide range of artists including Pat Metheny, Laurie Anderson, David Bowie, Dave Douglas, Cibo Matto, Mitchell Froom, and Chris Speed. Since moving to New York in 1994, Cuong has been active leading various groups, most notably his trio with Stomu Takeishi (bass) and Ted Poor (drums).

He has toured extensively throughout the world and has given clinics and masterclasses throughout the US and Europe. As a leader, Cuong has released four recordings, “Bound” (OmniTone), “Pure” (Knitting Factory Records), “Come Play With Me” (Knitting Factory Records) and “It's Mostly Residual” (ArtistShare) to critical acclaim, with each one having been considered among the best recordings of their respective years

David Cooper

David Cooper is widely recognized as one of the most versatile trumpets players in the Midwest.  The summer and fall of 2014 plan to be busy as there are four recording projects in the works!  One is going to be a jazz quartet setting of mostly original compositions and another is a recording of the concerti of Lauren Bernofsky, James Stephenson and Anthony Plog.

As a performer, his affiliations include the Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Isthmus Brass, The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Tom Gullion, The Art Blakey Tribute Band, and The Tim Whalen Nonet. He has given solo recitals at the Universities of: Duluth, Wyoming, Wisconsin, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, UW-Green Bay, UW-LaCrosse and Lawrence Conservatory.  He has also given solo recitals at ITG Conference, NY Brass Conference, Central Conservatory of Beijing, China.  Ensemble affiliations have included the Wisconsin Brass Quintet, the Milwaukee, Fox Valley, Canton and La Crosse Symphony Orchestras, The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, The Dallas Brass, Walt Disney World, and the Aspen Jazz Ensemble.

Jesse Selengut

Jesse Selengut is a Brooklyn-based trumpeter, composer and multi-instrumentalist. He has had success as a bandleader, film scorer, producer and sideman on over a dozen albums, most noticeably, Huge Voodoo's Affordable Magic ('03).

Recently, Selengut has been splitting time between the Williamsburg Jazz Festival (which he founded) and Noir, a quartet blending electronica and groove-infused jazz. Noir is cutting-edge jazz, fusing the best of tradition with today's beats and electronic flavors. Noir has opened for Chris Potter, Dave Douglas, George Garzone and Joe Lovano.

Paul Edmonds

Born:

Paul Edmonds was born in 1968 and grew up in Bournemouth, England. By the age of 16 he was playing with respected South Coast groups. He progressed to the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, during which time he won First Prize in the International Trumpet Guild’s Jazz Improvisation Competition held at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. He then entered the Guildhall School of Music, graduating in 1989. After two years on the London jazz scene playing clubs with Jean Toussaint, Julian Argüelles, Cleveland Watkiss, Clark Tracey and Loose Tubes, he spent some time in Australia where he worked as a composer and led his own band in Sydney. On his return to England he led his own Quintet at Ronnie Scott’s on a number of occasions and as a member of the Mike Westbrook Orchestra was a featured trumpet soloist on the 1996 “Bar Utopia” album. Since 1997 he has worked principally as a composer and teacher, spending his time in the recording studio and performing his music in front of live studio audiences.

Orbert Davis

Trumpeter, composer Orbert Davis is co-founder, conductor and artistic director of CHICAGO JAZZ PHILHARMONIC, a 55+ piece jazz-symphonic orchestra dedicated to multi-genre projects. Orbert is also clinical associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Winner of the 1995 Cognac Hennessy National Jazz Search, Orbert was chosen one of Chicago Tribune's "1995 Arts People of the Year". Chicago Magazine named him "Y2k Best Trumpeter in Chicago" and "Chicagoan of the Year for 2002". Along with his business partner Mark Ingram, Orbert owns and operates ORBARK PRODUCTIONS. Their credits include projects for Atlantic, Capitol, CBS, Epic, MCA, the Warner Brothers record labels and several feature films
