Born and raised in the Bronx, NY, trumpeter Bruce Harris has earned a reputation as one of the most important and emerging voices in jazz today. Harris’s love for music began in his home where the sounds of his grandfather’s alto saxophone and New York's storied music traditions of bebop and hip-hop consumed him. Inspired by acclaimed director Spike Lee’s “Mo Better Blues,” Harris became enamored with the trumpet and at the age of 13 his musical journey started. Heavily influenced by Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Clifford Brown and Dizzy Gillespie, Harris performed in the “Essentially Ellington” jazz band competition as a high school junior, earning the opportunity to play alongside famed trumpeter and jazz historian, Wynton Marsalis

Mark J. Inouye

Born: May 18, 1971

Mark J. Inouye is one of a very select group of trumpeters equally at home in the worlds of classical and jazz music. Inouye currently performs with the San Francisco Symphony but has also held principal trumpet positions with the Houston and Charleston Symphonies. He has performed under the baton of Kurt Masur with the New York Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta with The Israel Philharmonic. As a soloist, he performed the Tartini Violin Concerto arranged for trumpet with the Houston Symphony and the Haydn and Tomasi Concerti with the New World Symphony. He has also appeared with the Tanglewood Wind Ensemble under Seiji Ozawa in volumes 3 and 4 of the video production, Marsalis on Music, performing the Carnival of Venice Variations and the Hummel Trumpet Concerto

Todd Horton

Born: November 15, 1969

Todd has performed and recorded with a diverse group of artists including The Spin Doctors, Buddy Miles, Ivan Neville, Winston Grennan, Adam Holzman, African Blue Note and Richard Bona. He was also a member of Ani Difranco's band and appears on her double live album "So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter," and "Evolve". His playing displays an introspective vulnerability, a poetic sense of space and an undeniably romantic lyricism. His writing stretches genre boundaries, establishing an exciting benchmark for the future in instrumental and experimental music.

Pete Rodriguez

Trumpeter, vocalist, and percussionist Pete Rodríguez carries the bloodline of Nuyorican salsa as he takes his unique brand of jazz to exciting new places. Son of salsa singer Pete “El Conde” Rodriguez and godson of Fania Records bandleader Johnny Pacheco, Rodríguez cut his teeth playing with some of the greatest names in Latin music. By age 19, he was musical director of his father’s band. As a vocalist, he sang on Tito Puente's Grammy-award winning Mambo Birdland.  As an instrumentalist, he's appeared with legends including Celia Cruz, Chico O'Farrill, Bebo Valdez and Eddie Palmieri, including performing on the Brian Lynch/Eddie Palmieri Project’s Grammy-winning release, Simpatico. As a bandleader, Rodriguez draws on his diverse upbringing—including living through the birth of Hip Hop in the Bronx and becoming an accomplished classical trumpeter as an adolescent Puerto Rico—to create his own brand of jazz that defies categorization.  The result is music that has been praised as “not only instrumentally ferocious, but texturally rich and at times profoundly intimate,” with compositions “rich in musical depth, tone and beauty, as well as rhythm and melody… giving his music an appeal beyond genres.” (Downbeat). His music demonstrates his aptitude for hard-driving, modern post-bop jazz, as much as melodic Latin variants and R&B-tinged grooves. Rodriguez has released a series of acclaimed albums as a leader, including Mind Trip, The Alchemist, Caminando con Papi (Destiny Records), El Conde Negro (Destiny Records), Obstacles (Sunnyside Records), and his most recent, I’m Pete Rodríguez, Vol. 1 (Sunnyside Records), named one of the Best of 2024 by the New York City Jazz Record. Corey Wilkes

Born: June 3, 1979

As a child, Corey Wilkes was surrounded by the sounds of Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz. He picked up the trumpet for the first time at the age of 10. Starting with the school band, Corey's natural talent immediately began to flourish. He dominated his peers in both group and solo competitions, always taking first place. His confidence and maturity were well beyond his years. As a student at Rich South High School in Richton Park, Illinois, his hard work and dedication secured a spot in the Illinois All State Honors Jazz Combo; the first student in the school's history to do so. Corey further honed his craft at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts

Peter Anastos & Iter

Born: August 13, 1953

The Iter concept, developed by Anastos (it's not that deep, folks), is a musical journey down the Roman road, or iter common crossword clue), of jazz. The compositions are eclectic, ranging from the title cut, Iternity, which offers intertwined harmonies by the horns over a revolving foundation played by the rhythm section before bursting into a hard bop, to Carousel which starts as a child's nightmare on the county fair's carousel but ends in a smooth, flowing ride. The other selections, such as Leebarebop, which incorporates the influence of Lee Morgan with a funky, hip-hop rhythm and DeCoy, based on McCoy Tyner's signature 70's chord structures, illustrate Anastos' versatile writing style.
