John Vanore

A Woody Herman alumnus, John has a strong place in his heart for the power and energy that is part of being a big band, while his passion for improvising draws him to the intimacy and interplay of the small group. Wayne Ricci

Ever since Wayne Ricci won the John Philip Sousa Band Award as a youth, he charted his musical course as a first-rate trumpeter, performing in concert bands, classical brass ensembles, and marching bands.

The trumpeter has contributed to {{m: Kathy Sanborn = 19426}}'s eight albums, including the August 4, 2017 release, Recollecting You.

Writer and critic Mark S. Tucker says: "Wayne Ricci is a reborn Chet Baker on trumpet."

Jazz critic Susan Frances (JazzTimes) notes that Ricci performs with a “sable-like plushness.” His smooth, soulful tone is both refreshingly pure and emotionally deep, a style that is uniquely his own.

Walt Fowler

Walt Fowler, originally from Salt Lake City, Utah was born into a legendary musical family led by his father, renowned jazz educator, Dr. William L. Fowler. He kicked off his professional career as a trumpet player at the age of 19, when he joined Frank Zappa and the Mothers in 1974. In 1975, Walt and his brothers, Bruce, Steve, Tom and Ed formed "The Fowler Brothers Band," and released two jazz albums to critical acclaim. Following their release, Walt’s musical career continued to escalate as he toured with prominent artists such as Billy Cobham, Johnny Guitar Watson, Ray Charles, Buddy Rich, George Benson and Diana Ross. Daniel Rosenthal

Born: December 30, 1981

Daniel Rosenthal is a Boston-based trumpeter/composer, and is a faculty member at Berklee College of Music, in the Ear Training department. He co-leads the group, The Rosenthals, with his father, Grammy-nominated bluegrass singer and string-player, Phil Rosenthal. He leads his own quintet (the Daniel Rosenthal Quintet), which features Charlie Kohlhase and Rick Stone on saxophones, Jef Charland on bass, and Luther Gray on drums. He also co-leads the newly formed Rosenthal/Hofbauer Quartet which features Eric Hofbauer on guitar, Aaron Darrell on bass and Austin McMahon on drums. He is also a co-leader of The Sommers Rosenthal Family Band, with his sister, Naomi Sommers, and father, Phil Rosenthal. Dan is also a very in-demand sideman, performing in many well regarded jazz groups in Boston and beyond

Ted Chubb

Born: November 17, 1980

For more than two decades, trumpeter and composer Ted Chubb has built a life in jazz as a bandleader, educator, community builder, and artistic director in Jersey City. He leads his own ensembles, teaches jazz trumpet at Princeton University, and co-owns and helms The Statuary in his chosen hometown.

“Ted Chubb is a very talented trumpeter, composer, improviser, bandleader and educator,” says bassist, composer, and 11-time Grammy Award winner Christian McBride. “Ted is the total package, and most of all, he is just one great guy.”

Chubb’s playing is grounded in melody, bebop, and blues phrasing. He draws from the trumpet lineage of Miles Davis, Booker Little, Lee Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie, Blue Mitchell, Freddie Hubbard, Kenny Dorham, and Art Farmer, alongside modern voices such as Tom Harrell and Nicholas Payton. He has also cited vocalists including Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan as formative influences. 

Kevin Turcotte

Born: 1964

Kevin Turcotte (trumpet, flugelhorn) was born in 1964 in Ottawa, Ontario,Canada, but raised in Sudbury, Ontario. He recognized as one of Canada’s major trumpet talents with an impressive list of recording and touring credentials as a prominent player with the elite of Canadian jazz ensembles including time Warp, The Mike Murley Quartet, Rob McConnell and The Boss Brass, The Dave McMurdo Orchestra, Hemispheres New Music Ensemble, The Barry Elmes quintet, the Jazz Report All-Stars, The Kieran Overs Quintet, Andrew Downing’s Attention Span, The Jean Martin Trio, and NOJO. Evan Weiss

Born: October 21, 1985

Evan Weiss was born and raised near Seattle, Washington. In addition to playing the trumpet, much of his childhood was spent hiking and camping in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Living in a musical household, he was able to pick up bits of knowledge from his two older brothers. And at the age of 11, Evan was given his very first CD: Clifford Brown. From that moment on, he devoted his studies to the art of improvisation and began study with Seattle bebop legend, Don Lanphere. Later in life, Weiss studied music at the University of North Texas. During his stay, he had the opportunity to compose, perform, and travel with the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band
