Senova Ulker

Şenova Ülker started his education in trumpet at the Ankara State Conservatory in 1969 and completed it upon his graduation with honors from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 1979. The same year, he auditioned for the Istanbul State Symphony and started to work as the first trumpetist. He currently holds the duty as the principal trumpetist. Ülker taught for 15 years at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Conservatory and Istanbul University State Conservatory. He has also trianed many students through private lessons. Born in Portland, Oregon, Andrew started playing piano at the age of five. At the age of 12 his musical talents were recognized by the leadership at his church and he was encouraged to play trumpet in the church band. After many musical recognitions and an opportunity to perform with Mercer Ellington in high school he went on to attend the University of Oregon to study Trumpet Performance with an emphasis in Jazz Studies . Joel Behrman started playing trumpet and trombone at age 9. He grew up in a suburb of St. Louis, a city that has a great legacy of jazz and blues music and musicians. At 18 he moved to Miami and studied with local musicians like Ira Sullivan, Barry Reis and with the talented faculty at the University of Miami. In 1996, while in the middle of his education, he began a tour with K.C. and the Sunshine Band. After five years of juggling college, a teaching assistantship and touring, Joel decided to reconnect with his jazz roots and move to San Francisco. Josiel Perez Hernandez

Born in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba on October 9, 1986, Josiel comes from an extensive musical family, beginning with his grandfather who is a refined flautist to his uncle Andres Perez who is considered one of the best baritone saxophonists in Cuba.

Josiel began his formal musical studies at the fresh young age of 9, in the Elementary School of Art, where he studied trumpet, piano and composition.

After graduating, Josiel continued onto the reputable and highly acclaimed “National School of Art” (ENA) in Havana Cuba for four years, and then on to the Institute of Superior Art (ISA) for four years.

New Orleans native David Pruyn is a multi-talented musician who, in addition to playing trumpet and drums, has a Mel Torme-like singing voice. David first played drums in public at age 11 while his family was traveling with a small Shrine circus. His father was the music director and trumpet player, and his mother was playing organ. The day before they were scheduled to open a show in Wisconsin, the Chicago drummer who had been hired for the gig had to cancel and neither he nor David’s dad could find a sub. Gabriel Johnson

Gabriel Johnson was born in Santa Clara, California in 1980 and grew up in Salinas, California. Early on, his greatest musical influence was his grandmother who always preached to him the importance of the arts and, most importantly, jazz. “She was the one who told me I really needed to go hear Dizzy play in 1989 at the Monterey Jazz Festival. It was there that I heard not only Dizzy but another of the all time greats, Freddie Hubbard. That was about all it took for me to say, ‘this is what I want to do.’” After practicing obsessively throughout middle and high school, Gabriel attended Boston’s prestigious New England Conservatory of Music
