Michael Dessen

Born: 1967

Michael Dessen is a composer-improviser who performs on the slide trombone and computer. Active in a variety of ensembles as leader or collaborator, he creates music for improvisers and engages new technologies of telepresence and digital networking. His music has been praised by critics in numerous jazz and contemporary music publications, and recorded on labels such as Clean Feed, Cuneiform, and Circumvention. Dessen's teachers include Yusef Lateef, George Lewis, and Anthony Davis, and he has also been schooled through extensive freelance experiences ranging from salsa bands to avant-garde new music ensembles

Emily Asher

Born: July 25, 1980

Emily Asher is a Brooklyn-based trombonist and singer of "buoyant charm” (Nate Chinen, The New York Times) in strong demand as a bandleader and sidewoman in New York City and internationally. As a leader, Asher has produced four CDs and led US and Israel tours with Emily Asher’s Garden Party and earned a prestigious Banff Residency with her Endangered Species Trio. She recorded and performed with Wycliffe Gordon on his “Hello Pops!” tribute to Louis Armstrong, and was a member of Nicholas Payton’s Television Studio Orchestra. “Ms. Asher plays with both grit and grace” (Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal) and has shared the stage with a wide variety of artists including Tony Bennett, Carol Burnett, Mø, Talib Kweli, Chaka Khan, Terri Lyne Carrington, and many others

Nick DePinna

Born: September 19, 1985

San Francisco bay area native turned Los Angeles resident and enthusiast, composer and trombonist Nick DePinna studied music composition at UCLA, completing his M.A. in 2010. During his time at UCLA, his mentors included James W. Newton, Paul Chihara, David Lefkowitz, and Kenny Burrell among others. As a composer of concert, film, and commercial music, his output is wildly diverse. His creative concert works and large ensemble arrangements are performed with increasing regularity by various professional ensembles and universities across the nation, while at the same time his music for visual media can be heard frequently on such networks as ABC, FOX, HBO, National Geographic WILD, VH-1, and CMT

Rob Stoneback

Rob Stoneback is a trombonist, composer, arranger, and big band leader from the Lehigh Valley in eastern Pennsylvania. During his career, he has performed with the Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James, and Gene Krupa Orchestras. The Rob Stoneback Big Band has been in continuous operation since 1979. In the course of these years, the band has recorded with Bill Watrous and has performed at Lincoln Center and all over the Mid-Atlantic region. His compositions can be heard on his Caught in the Web and Mad to the Bone recordings.

David Manson

David Manson is a trombonist, composer, improvisor, presenter and music technologist with a diverse range of experience in music. His degrees include a doctorate from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He began his performance career with positions in the Florida West Coast Symphony Orchestra and Memphis Symphony Orchestra and taught low brass and jazz studies at Indiana State University before returning to Florida. He has been soloist and composer with the BONK New Music Festival, Subtropics New Music Festival, Society of Composers and SEAMUS. He has performed and recorded with Cecil Taylor, Sam Rivers, Eugene Chadbourne, John Lindberg, Davey Williams and other innovators.  He has also backed popular artists including Henry Mancini, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Johnny Mathis, Burt Bacharach and toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

David's solo recordings include "Modern Music for Trombone" (lps 3209) and "Beast" (isospin)

James Hall

Hall’s sophomore release, Lattice (Outside In 2018), described as “a masterpiece of chamber music” (JazzLife Magazine), is built around the harmonious combination of Hall’s dexterous trombone and the virtuosic flute playing of Jamie Baum, a pliable and expressive study in contrasts. Kirk Silsbee praised the work’s “graceful instrumental combinations and linear development” (Downbeat Magazine), and Bob Morello called the work “a tasty treat” and “a potpourri of great tunes” (Boston Post-Gazette).

Joe Reidy

Joe Reidy, the Founder of Wachusett Jazz, is a trombonist and vocalist. He has worked with international, national and regional performers in the fields of Jazz, Rock and Classical music. In addition to Wachusett Jazz, he performs with Mike Girard's Big Swinging Thing, The Skeletones Big Band, The New England Swing & Soul Orchestra, and his eponymous solo act. Joe's performance credits include Mike Girard's Big Swinging Thing, Charles Neville, Grace Kelly, James Montgomery, The Stompers, Jill Connelly, The Valves, Tornado Alley, and Aerosmith. He has performed at notable venues throughout the U.S

Ray Vasquez started in the 40’s & 50’s big band, Jazz & Latin Jazz era from Watts, Los Angeles California. Ray Vasquez recorded his album “In the Still of the Night” with George Hernandez and Oliver Berliner in 1959 with a 14 piece orchestra on RCA VICTOR RECORDS. Ray Vasquez worked with Musicians Horace Heidt, Charlie Barnet, Bobby Sherwood, Perez Prado, Lennie Niehaus, Paul Lopez, Manny Lopez, Chico Sesma, Anthony Ortega (his cousin), Phil Carreón, Lionel Hampton, & Don Tosti. After the big band era, Ray Vasquez uses professional aka Ray Victor after graduating from the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse Theater

Josh Bennier

Born: October 17, 1995

Josh Bennier (born Adelaide, 1995) is an improvising trombonist and composer. After completing a Diploma of Music at the Elder Conservatorium at the University of Adelaide in 2013, he moved to Melbourne to study at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music at Monash University. Studying under Paul Williamson, Jordan Murray, James Macaulay and Robert Burke has been an invaluable experience for him. Josh was awarded the Marjorie Garner Orchestral Scholarship for Trombone in 2013 and has since been nominated for the Sir Zelman Cowen Vice- Chancellor's scholarship twice. Josh won the Monash Jazz Composition Prize in 2017 and was a semi-finalist in the 2017 National Jazz Awards at Wangaratta Jazz Festival
