Delfeayo Marsalis

Born: July 28, 1965

Delfeayo Marsalis is one of the top trombonists, composers and producers in jazz today. Known for his “technical excellence, inventive mind and frequent touches of humor…”(Leonard Feather, Los Angeles Times), he is “…one of the best, most imaginative and musical of the trombonists of his generation.” (Philip Elwood, San Francisco Examiner.) In January 2011, Delfeayo and the Marsalis family (father Ellis and brothers Branford, Wynton and Jason) earned the nation’s highest jazz honor" a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Award.

Born in New Orleans on July 28, 1965, Marsalis was destined to a life in music. “I remember my dad (Ellis Marsalis) playing piano at the house, and me laying underneath the piano as a child, listening to him play. After briefly trying bass and drums, in sixth grade I gravitated towards the trombone, which was an extension of my personality. Early on my influences and inspirations included J.J. Johnson, Curtis Fuller, Al Grey, Tyree Glenn and Tommy Dorsey.” Marsalis attended the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts high school, was classically trained at the Eastern Music Festival and Tanglewood Institute, and majored in both performance and audio production at the Berklee College of Music.

Max Perkoff

Infinite Search, the Max Perkoff Band, the brand new CD by the Max Perkoff Band, represents Max Perkoff's most compelling project to date. That's saying a lot, for as a trombonist, pianist, composer and bandleader, Max Perkoff is a musician of grace, depth and impressive achievement, with several striking recordings as a leader to his name, and a recent chart-busting collaboration with trombone great Roswell Rudd. Perkoff has impressive bloodlines, as well; he's the son of pianist Si Perkoff, one of the founding fathers of San Francisco bebop. The Max Perkoff Band will celebrate the release of Infinite Search with a performance at Jazz at Pearl's on Thursday, April 12, 2007

Kevin Quail

Born: May 10, 1955

Kevin Quail, trombonist, age 50(in dog years),has been playing jazz way long enough to know better, has played or recorded with Charles McPherson, Andy Simpkins, Mike Wofford, Sherman Ferguson, Donald Bailey, Harold Jones, Herman Riley, Carl Leukaufe, Don Menza, Bobby Caldwell, among others. Mr. Quail has played gigs in the Midwest as the leader of his big band, The Kevin Quail Orchestra. In between jazz gigs there have been the inevitable weddings, recording sessions, cruise ships, playing in bands backing up celebrities from Charo to Frankie Lane to Julie Budd to John Davidson to Kaye Starr to Glen Campbell to Andy Williams(Are they still alive?). Tim Davis, drums, moved to Chicago from Kansas City a number of years ago and has played with numerous jazz luminaries in both locations

Kevin Stout

Born: November 29, 1957

Kevin Stout has been a freelance jazz trombonist in Las Vegas, Nevada, for many years, where he has worked with Joe Piscopo, The Four Tops, Don Rickles and Frank Sinatra Jr., among many others. His credits include the Don Menza Big Band and Quintet, The Nevada Jazz Orchestra and his own Kevin Stout Quintet. From 1992 to 2000, Kevin performed with the Four Freshmen jazz vocal group as a trombone soloist, guitarist, bassist, percussionist and vocalist. Stout appeared on three albums with the Four Freshmen, two of which were produced and engineered by Stout. His television credits include The Charles Grodin Show, CBS Sunday Morning and 50 years Fresh, a PBS special which aired in summer 1999 and featured Maureen McGovern

Ben Patterson is one of the most easily recognizable trombonists and big band arrangers today. His fiery approach to the trombone, whether from the lead chair or solo mic, has excited listeners around the world for more than two decades. From his early years in his hometown of Sapulpa, OK, Ben was drawn to sounds of all kinds. He had a drive to compose tunes by the age of eight. When he started trombone in 6th grade, he found his voice. Sapulpa’s excellent directors pushed him to improve and exposed him to great music. Ben continued his education at the University of North Texas, where he continued to develop his playing chops

Tom Smith

Born: May 10, 1957

Tom Smith is a five time Senior Fulbright Professor of Music at the Romanian National University of Music, Lecturer of Social and Political Affairs in the School of American Studies at the University of Bucharest, Tibiscus University in Timisoara, and an active member of the Fulbright Professional Specialist Program, having taught and performed extensively at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Jazz Center, in Durban, South Africa. For seven years he was Director of Instrumental Music at Pfeiffer University, near Charlotte, North Carolina. Once called part trombonist, part music missionary by Downbeat Magazine , Smith was introduced to fine arts at an early age by his father, a noted trombonist and painter
