Andre Hayward

Andre Hayward is an extremely gifted trombonist with the sound and clarity reminiscent of the late J.J. Johnson. His gospel-tinged approach is refreshing and will warm the hearts of anyone he comes in contact with. He is by no means a purist and can function in a wide range of musical settings. Born in Houston, Texas in 1973, Hayward's first exposure to the world of music was through his parents, Melvin and Barbara Hayward where musical talent exists on both sides. Hayward began playing trombone and tuba at the age of 11 under the tutelage of Leon Schreiber and 2 years later with Bob Odneal who was lead trumpeter for Maynard Ferguson

Craig S. Harris

When Craig Harris exploded onto the jazz scene in 1976, he brought the entire history of the jazz trombone with him. From the growling gutbucket intensity of early New Orleans music through the refined, articulate improvisation of the modern era set forth by J.J. Johnson, and into the confrontational expressionism of the ‘60s avant-garde, Craig handled the total vernacular the way a skilled orator utilizes the spoken word. But the contemporary music world quickly realized that his talents went far beyond his superb skills as a trombonist. While he performed with a veritable Who’s Who of progressive jazz’ most important figures �" including Sun Ra, Sam Rivers, Lester Bowie, Abdullah Ibrahim, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Jaki Byard, Cecil Taylor, Muhal Richard Abrams, and the list goes on and on -- his own projects displayed both a unique sense of concept and a total command of the sweeping expanse of African-American musical expression. And it’s those two qualities that have dominated Craig’s past 15 years of activity, bringing him far beyond the confines of the jazz world and into the sphere of multimedia and performance art as composer, performer, conceptualist, curator and artistic director. Sensing the increasing economic constrictions and diminishing opportunities that would soon place a stranglehold on the more adventurous aspects of music in the jazz tradition, Craig began to devote his energies to a broader realm of artistic realization back in 1988

Josh Brown

Playing with a beautiful expressive sound, effortless sense of swing, and refined improvisational skills, trombonist Josh Brown is joined by guitarist Randy Napoleon and bassist Neal Miner on a unique journey that is altogether intimate, joyous, and fresh through the Great American Songbook. Josh Brown seemed destined to become a musician. Raised in Burlington, Ontario by his music teacher mother and jazz loving father, he grew up playing in school and city bands, eventually winning local and national competitions. He travels the world, listening to others, his breath - rich and at the same time delicate - interacts with these cultures to tell us all his emotions lived abroad. David Gibson

Trombonist David Gibson has enjoyed a varied musical career which is deeply rooted in the genres of jazz and funk. While reared in Oklahoma, Gibson’s musical journey steered him to New York City. Jazz luminary Curtis Fuller said about Gibson, “Out of all the young players I hear in the music today, David is one of very few who speaks the language of jazz”. David’s newest recording, “End of the Tunnel” is currently available from Posi-tone Records. It’s a set of music that evokes the essence of 60’s Blue Note Soul-Jazz in combination with the modern elements you’d expect from today’s current crop of jazz musicians

Lamar Harris

Born: October 26, 1975

Lamar Harris is a talented musician as well as an experienced producer writer, and arranger. At an early age Lamar Harris, born Byron Lamar Harris, began perfecting the trombone, slide trumpet, and the tuba. His love for live instruments allowed him to birth, “The Mov>ment,” which embarked on an explosion in St. Louis delivering a smooth yet gritty, creative blend with other passionate artists. The 2006 Riverfront Times Best Funk/R&B/Soul nominee has opened and performed at the U.S. Jazz & Heritage Festival, St. Louis Art Fair, and Salute to Excellence with The Jazz- Edge, in addition to, sought after entertainers such as: Martin Luther, Cab Calloway Big Band, Greg Haynes, Pieces of a Dream, Rebirth Brass Band, The Wooten Brothers, and Gotee Record Artists DJ Maj, Liquid and VERBS. The list continues with the likes of Biz Markie, Common, Doug E Fresh, Eric Roberson, Mos Def, John Legend, Musiq, Goapelle, The Last Poets and the list continues with too many names to mention

Steve Wiest Big Band

Jazz trombonist Steve Wiest is in great demand as a featured artist, composer/arranger and clinician. Throughout the U.S., he is enjoying success and critical acclaim as he pursues an ambitious performing schedule while continuing to record, compose and arrange. Steve has also appeared in Canada, South America, Australia, Japan, and Europe. From 1981-1986, Steve was the featured trombonist and one of the arrangers for Maynard Ferguson's Band. While with Maynard, he recorded two CDs: "Storm" and "Live From San Francisco", and one two-volume video: "The Playboy Jazz Festival". During this time, Steve and the Maynard Ferguson band also performed with a number of guest artists including: Freddie Hubbard, Slide Hampton, Wynton Marsalis, David Clayton Thomas, Lew Soloff, Billy Eckstein, and Mel Torme

Roland Barber

Twins Rahsaan and Roland Barber, saxophonist and trombonist, respectively, are committed to continuing the legacy of jazz through their efforts as composers, performers, bandleaders and educators. Though still in their early twenties, the Barber Brothers have learned their craft both in the classroom and in the informal sessions, shoulder to shoulder with the veterans of the music such as Al Grey and Stanley Turrentine. The Barber Brothers’ training includes virtually every significant resource in modern jazz education. Their experiences include the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camps, the Essentially Ellington Festival (where both were named Outstanding Soloists), the All-American Grammy High School Jazz Bands, the Ravinia Steans Young Artists Program, the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Program, and the Jazz Aspen Program

Alfred Winters

Born: March 24, 1931

Born and raise in New York. Completed B.S. and M.S degrees from Hofstra University. Worked proffessionly since 1957. Studied with Metropolitan Opera Orchestra principal trombonist Roger Smith. Background includes playing with Bobby Hackett, Gene Krupa, Phil Napolean, Wild Bill Davison, Benny Goodman. Recorded with numerous artists including Gene Krupa and Bobby Hackett. Relocated in 1966 to the Detroit area and performed and recorded with the Austin-Moro Big Band and the New Mckinney's Cottonpickers as well as local artists like Tom Saunders. Led my own band since 1988 and have performed at numerous Jazz Festivals including Newport Jazz Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival and the sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
