Wayne Travillion

Born: August 2, 1941

Wayne Travillion comes from musical family, his father a church organist and pianist, his sister a piano performance graduate of the University of Oregon. In fifth grade Wayne into started trombone. It was a natural for him. Whenever home alone, he would put on old 78 rpm records of Sousa Marches or Monte Ballou’s Castle Jazz Band and play along with the records, over and over. In high school he joined a Dixieland band called the Caldonians, named after the Louis Jordan hit, Caldonia . They became popular around the area and several of the group continued playing together on into college

Rick Davies

Originally from Albuquerque, NM, Rick Davies moved to New York City in the late 1970s and worked there a musician for more than twenty years before joining the faculty at SUNY Plattsburgh in 2000. Davies has primarily focused his creative efforts in the areas of salsa, Latin jazz, and Afro-Caribbean music. On the salsa, Afro-Caribbean, and Latin jazz scenes, he has performed with many artists and groups (Tito Puente, Johnny Colon, Charlie Palmieri, Marc Anthony, Skah Shah, Ti Manno, Tabou Combo, Arrow, Rey Reyes, Johnny Ray, Manny Oquendo’s Libre, etc.) and recorded on over one hundred albums

Terry Hsieh is a senior double degree student in Jazz trombone and East Asian Studies at Oberlin College and Oberlin Conservatory, who hails from a diverse range of teachers and styles. As a trombonist, he began studying under Duke University Professor of Jazz and Bass Player John V. Brown. He currently studies with Robin Eubanks. As a classical pianist, Hsieh has won several titles including high scores at the North Carolina Music Teacher’s Association Festival, 1st place in the NCMTA’s Composition Category, and Honorable Mentions at the Loren Withers Piano competition. In 2006 and 2007, Hsieh was chosen to play lead trombone at the University of Carolina at Greensboro’s Honors High School Jazz clinic, under the tutelage of bassist Steve Haines

Philip Yaeger

Born: 1976

Born in Northern Maine, Philip Yaeger learned to sing as soon as he could talk. Improvisation came naturally to him and by the age of fourteen he was playing engagements with a jazz trio - not an easy thing to accomplish in a town of ten thousand souls.

The stations of his life thus far: William Paterson University: B.A. or B.M. (I can never remember) in Jazz Performance; studied w/Ed Neumeister, Steve Turre, Conrad Herwig, Rufus Reid, et al).
New York City: the Lower East Side free scene - often as an apprentice/observer but also occasionally as a participant, also numerous work in soul, pop, rock and Afro-beat.
Philadelphia: that fantastic West Philly do-it-yourself scene, work with Tim Motzer, Ursula Rucker, Elliot Levin et al.
Graz, Austria: Master of Arts from the Arts University of Graz; further studies with Ed Neumeister and others.
Vienna, where he currently lives and happily works with whomever will have him

Marco Katz Montiel

Marco Katz composed and performed the soundtrack for the 2000 production of Zoey’s Zoo (Oh Yeah! Cartoons). His recording of Tubby the Tuba Meets a Jazz Band came out on Koch in 2007. Marco has recorded with Charlie Palmieri and other artists. Marco’s compositions and arrangements have been performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall and published by Bourne, Carl Fischer Music, International Music, and Kendor. His publications also include articles in Popular Music and Society.

Bob Cochran

Bob Cochran started playing the trombone at age 12. His trombone teachers include Jack Harris, Lauren Buslee, Robert Bailey, Edward Huttlin and Tom Ervin. Bob has attended clinics given by Urbie Green, Ralph Sauer and Bob McChesney. Bob competed as a trombone soloist in music contests through junior high and high school. He was selected as first chair in the Minnesota All State High School Band in the summer of 1975. The following summer, he was named principal trombonist with the Minnesota All State High School Orchestra. He was lucky enough to play alongside Bruce Eidem (now a top New York professional trombonist) in the Fargo-Moorhead Youth Symphony, and assumed the principal chair duties when Bruce graduated from high school

Jen Krupa

California native Jennifer Krupa is an active trombonist in the Washington, DC area. A member of the United States Navy Band Commodores Jazz Ensemble since 2004, Jen also performs regularly with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra; Sherrie Maricle & The DIVA Jazz Orchestra; and her own group, JLQ, with saxophonist Leigh Pilzer. Jen has performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, David Berger’s Sultans of Swing, the Wycliffe Gordon Quintet/Sextet, Joe Lovano, Branford Marsalis, Nancy Wilson, Johnny Mandel, Chris Potter, Bill Watrous, Christian McBride, Eddie Daniels, Arturo Sandoval and numerous others
