Younger Brothers: The Allman Joys, Hourglass, Duane & Gregg

Read "Younger Brothers: The Allman Joys, Hourglass, Duane & Gregg" reviewed by Doug Collette

In somewhat belated recognition and celebration of the fifty year anniversary of the formation of the Allman Brothers Band in March of 1969, something of a beehive of activity arose during the first quarter of 2020. Not coincidentally, most of it circles around what used to be one of, if not the most, significant junctures of ...

On March 26, 1969 in Jacksonville, Florida, guitarist Duane Allman convened a jam session including bassist Berry Oakley, guitarist Dickey Betts, and drummers Jaimoe and Butch Trucks. It was the first musical meeting of the group which, with the addition of Gregg Allman on vocals and Hammond organ, would become The Allman Brothers Band-one of the most acclaimed and influential groups in the history of rock and roll. On March 26, 1999 at the Beacon Theater in New York, the Allman Brothers Band celebrated its 30th Anniversary with the penultimate performance of their sixth annual "March Madness" stand at the venerable theater-a total of 80 sold-out Beacon shows since 1993. Gregg Allman: Laid Back Deluxe Edition

Read "Laid Back Deluxe Edition" reviewed by Doug Collette

Gregg Allman's first solo album, Laid Back (Capricorn, 1973), is the ideal candidate for a Deluxe Edition reissue and remaster. Not only is the record an exquisite, one-of-a-kind piece of work in its original form, but the backstory is eminently worth telling as it sheds light not only on the creation of the album itself, but ...

The Allman Brothers Band: Fillmore West '71

Read "Fillmore West '71" reviewed by Doug Collette

Like virtually all the previously-releases from The Allman Brothers Band Recording Co., this latest archive release, Fillmore West '71, is a mixed blessing. The four-CD set might better have been graced with the stylized graphics that adorn such titles as Nassau Coliseum: Uniondale, NY 5/1/73 (The Allman Brothers Band Recording Co., 2005) including the caveat about ...

Dickey Betts: Ramblin' Man: Live at the St. George Theatre

Read "Ramblin' Man: Live at the St. George Theatre" reviewed by Doug Collette

Dickey Betts does not add to his reputation with Ramblin' Man: The Dickey Betts Band Live at the St George Theater. To be fair, he doesn't significantly sully reputation as an icon of Southern rock either, but that's just testament to how firmly established is his position in history as co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, ...

Read "Bring On The Music - Live at the Capitol Theatre" reviewed by Doug Collette

In the essay within the 2CD/2DVD package of Gov't Mule's Bring On The Music, Warren Haynes makes note of the the group's twenty-fifth anniversary.
