Phillip Johnston

Born: 1955

Phillip Johnston was born in 1955 in Chicago IL USA, and raised in New York. During the 1970s in New York City he met and began playing with a number of associates, many of whom would be come life long collaborators, such as John Zorn, Joel Forrester, Eugene Chadbourne, Bill Horvitz, Wayne Horvitz, Dave Hofstra, Richard Dworkin, Shelley Hirsch, Bruce Ackley, Jon Raskin and many others. During the 1970s he yo-yo’d back and forth between San Francisco and New York, eventually settling in New York in late 1979. During this time he also worked as an actor, sound operator and studio manager for R. Foreman’s Ontological Hysteric Theater.

Andy Firth

Born: March 9, 1966

Andy Firth started his performance career at the age of 14 when he appeared around South Australia featuring in small groups and big bands. By 17 Andy had moved to Adelaide and co-founded his first band The BBC Trio and later the BBC Quartet, Andy Firth’s reputation as one of Australia’s most outstanding jazz talents was further endorsed with his appearances on ABC, channel 7,9 and 10 television shows, The Burrows Collection, Sunday, Hey, Hey it’s Saturday, Clive Robertson’s News World and The Midday Show with Ray Martin. Today, Andy Firth is widely regarded as one of the most outstanding clarinet players in the world, having played internationally with some of the greatest performers, bands and orchestras in both classical and jazz music

Raoul Hawkins

Born: September 4, 1955

Raoul Hawkins began as trombonist for seminal world music group Keys. He led Sydney's underground rock band Paris Green for over a decade, and is currently bringing gypsy music to Sydney with the "Klezmer Connexion."

Gary Stark

Born: May 9, 1952

Playing since his early teens, has lived and played in Australia and the USA. Today spends more time listening and mentoring other players, as well as doing several hours weekly on Sydney radio and MCing at local blues and jazz festivals.

Greg Englert

Born: March, 1963

Greg is an award winning mutiple number 1 on-line jazz chart and top 20 rock/pop/easylistening on-line chart composer, musician and recording artist. He is based in Sydney Australia and performs with most of the top Jazz Bands and Sydney 80's covers band 'Glory Daze'.

From his beginning on Trumpet with Sydney Dixieland Jazz Bands and Swing Big Bands, Greg has gone on to work with most major jazz bands in Sydney including the legendary Ricky May, Bob Barnard and Dave Dallwitz. He has also supported and backed legends such as KC & the Sunshine Band, The Harlem Globetrotters, Jackie Trent & Tony Hatch (Neighbours, everybody needs good neighbours....), The Deltones, Doug Parkinson, Brian Cadd, Jackie Love (legs!!!!) etc.

Didi Mudigdo

Born: October 19, 1970

Didi Mudigdo’s music keeps him on a hectic live performance schedule all year round, performing either solo, or with his trio Didi Three, which has recorded three CDs to date. A popular entertainer, singer, pianist and composer from Sydney Australia, he was the most-downloaded independent jazz vocals artist on the Australian MP3 website mp3.com.au in 2005, and in the same year was a Top 10 finalist in the Australian National Songwriting Contest (jazz category). Born in Australia to Indonesian parents, Didi had a multi-national upbringing, living in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Sri Lanka before the age of 12

Angie Contini

Angie Contini is a performer and songwriter living in Sydney, with a diverse background in music, dance, theatre, and cabaret. While working as a jazz and blues singer, she has gradually developed a repertoire that reflects on the forms of swing, blues, gospel, and vaudeville. With a lyrical style that both embraces and augments these genres, Angie’s music is a foray into jungle-juice swing, haunting melancholy, observational mania, matters of the heart and delectable story-telling. James Ryan

Born: October 12, 1972

Originating from Darwin, Australia, James Ryan has performed extensively throughout Australia and Europe, basing himself in London for four years. Following a Masters of Music majoring in Jazz he taught performance, improvisation and composition at the Canberra School of Music (A.N.U.), The Queensland Conservatorium of Music (Griffith University) and the Queensland University of Technology. James Ryan’s fascination with improvisation and original jazz composition is reflected in his recordings and performances. The James Ryan Quartet released its self titled debut in 1997 and the James Ryan Trio released ‘Long Way Home’ on Jazzgroove Records in 2007.

Stephen Marquis
