Musician

Sungtaek Choo

Sungtak Choo is a jazz pianist from South Korea, currently based in New York City. He moved to New York to focus fully on jazz and to be part of the scene. Since arriving, he has learned and grown mostly by playing regularly, listening closely, and spending time with musicians who carry the tradition.

He was mentored by the legendary David Kikoski, whose playing and approach to the music had a strong influence on him. Since then, Sungtaek has played with musicians including Aaron Johnson, Eric Wyatt, Mike Boone, David Gibson, Joe Magnarelli, Santi Debriano, Paul Austerlitz, Anwar Marshall, Evan Sherman, Eric Wheeler, Joseph Lepore, and Jay Sawyer, just to name a few. He has performed at clubs throughout New York, including Smalls Jazz Club, Ornithology Jazz Club, Django, Zinc Bar, and Midnight Blue, and others.
