Album Description

Philly Standards is my debut EP, recorded with two of Philadelphia’s finest musicians, bassist Mike Boone and drummer Anwar Marshall. I met them at Smalls Jazz Club in New York, and from the first set I felt something different. Their sound and sense of time reminded me of the Philadelphia records I grew up listening to.

I’ve always been drawn to the Philly lineage — especially the depth and power in the playing of McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane. There’s a certain weight and spiritual intensity in that tradition that has always resonated with me. Playing with Mike and Anwar felt like stepping into that world in a real way.

The repertoire reflects that connection, including “Passion Dance,” “Blues on the Corner,” “Just in Time,” and “Chance.” We approached each tune naturally, focusing on playing together and listening to each other in the moment.

This EP documents a period of growth for me as a New York based pianist, shaped by my love for the Philly sound and what I learned from being in the room with musicians who carry that sound with them.
