Scot Lee

Audiences have been thrilled with performances on the cruise ships Queen Of The West, Columbia Queen, and Cunard Line cruise ship Coronia. Records are being played on Spotify and other Internet radio. ...repertoire includes some favorite songs made famous by Count Basie, Harry Connick Jr. and Tony Bennett. As a songwriter Scotty will trick your memory with original songs that sound just like a Schubert tune with a Gershwin touch. Sit Back and enjoy the soft jazzy style of Scot Free, inspired by the great singers of the 30’s and 40’s. You’ll enjoy an evening of jazz reminiscent of smoky piano bars and saloon singers.

Dan Wilensky

Born:

Dan Wilensky was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and moved to Berkeley, California the following year. Music was in the air at the Wilensky house: every family member played at least one instrument, and family jam sessions were frequent. He began piano lessons at age 8, and saxophone at 9 after he attended a Duke Ellington Orchestra concert. Wilensky flourished in the superb Berkeley public school music program, and studied saxophone privately with BHS grad Steve Elson, and his teacher, Hal Stein, and classical piano with Julian White. As a teenager, he street played, performed with schoolmates Benny Green, Craig Handy, Paul Hanson and Steve Bernstein, gigged with local bands, won top honors in various competitions, performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival three times, and was a guest soloist with the Woody Herman Orchestra. When he was 17, Wilensky studied for a year with jazz legend Joe Henderson, and received a scholarship to the Eastman School of Music.

Tom Matta Big Band: Standards

Read "Standards" reviewed by Jack Bowers

What's in a name? After all, a big-band jazz album by any other name would sound the same. On the other hand, it should be pointed out that as the versatile Tom Matta has chosen the name Standards to define his second album as leader of the Chicago-based Tom Matta Big Band, only three of the ...

Lloyd Cole: Standards

Read "Standards" reviewed by Doug Collette

Since then, Cole's often moved into realms that belie his arch persona, such as Sinatra-styled orchestration, but Standards carries ...
