Sei Miguel: Salvation Modes
by Glenn Astarita
Here, Portuguese trumpeter, composer Sei Miguel delves into his stockpile of older compositions that were seldom performed or recorded. And his customary, eccentric mode of operations is structured in an enticingly bizarre approach to jazz and jazz improvisation. On this release comprised of three extended tracks, the artist employs two quartets and a ten-piece ensemble as ...
Sei Miguel: Salvation Modes
by John Ephland
A delicacy pervades this music from start to finish. Sei Miguel's Salvation Modes is flush with silence, interludes, the sounds of musical instruments that made you love them in the first place. The disc is spread over three extended pieces: the first piece, “Preludio e Cruz De Sala," including trumpeter Miguel with guitarist Pedro Gomes, trombonist ...

by John Sharpe
It's almost a given that any new release on the Lithuanian No Business label is going to be a bit out of the ordinary. As the catalogue grows, so does its depth and breadth. Turbina Anthem vouchsafes that proposition, comprising an unusual guitar and trumpet duet by two Portuguese improvisers who deserve a wider audience. Trumpeter ...

Sei Miguel: Esfingico - Suite for a jazz combo
by AAJ Italy Staff
