Julian Nicholas

Born: January 13, 1965

Julian learned clarinet with Nicholas Bucknall at John Roan School, Greenwich from 1976 to 1983, when he went to York University and continued with Alan Hacker. He studied saxophone with Tony Coe, Don Rendell, Bobby Wellins. Julian didn't fit into the critics and promoters templates, necessarily, stylistically gravitating towards African rhythms with Western harmonies in his compositions, as well as the influence of folk music through artists such as John Surman, but he managed to pop up as a mainstream-to-modern freelancer with some of the legendary names of jazz from a very young age, as well as with reggae bands and on garage recordings

Matt Renzi

Multi-reedist Matt Renzi has been performing professionally for the past 20 years at international jazz festivals and music venues worldwide. For the past decade, he has been recognized multiple times by jazz organizations in Italy, Spain, Belgium, India and Israel as well as in the United States for his advanced concepts in spontaneous group composition and collective improvisation with The Matt Renzi Trio. He holds a Bachelor’s in Music (Performance) from the Berklee College of Music and Master’s in Arts (Classical Composition) from San Francisco State University. Growing up in Chicago, Mark was immersed from an early age in the blues drenched tradition that produced such hometown heroes as Johnny Griffin and Von Freeman. Moving to Detroit after college, he began working with the new generation of jazz lions there, as a regular member of bands led by Rodney Whitaker, Gerald Cleaver, Greg Burk and Bobby Battle

Sophia Smith

The Sophia Smith Quartet combines a mixture of traditional jazz elements with original modern jazz compositions. Sophia’s compositions create a unique blend of memorable melodies, lush harmony and improvisation, inspired by the compositions of Kenny Garrett, Chris Potter and Pat Metheny. The bright, yet warm sound of Sophia’s alto saxophone lends to the feel-good vibe of her compositions, which leave audiences uplifted. Mike Caudill

Born: November 15, 1991

Mike Caudill is a Boston-based saxophonist, composer, arranger, and educator.

A member of several projects performing across New England and New York, Mike leads his own bands, plays saxophone and electric wind instrument in the jazz-fusion group City of Four, and performs in Felipe Salles’ Interconnections Ensemble, among other groups. Mike has played in historic spaces, ranging from Boston’s Symphony Hall to jazz venues like Sculler’s, Regattabar, NYC’s Birdland, Dizzy’s Club, and The Jazz Gallery. Mike writes for a variety of ensembles, including saxophone quartets, big bands, and orchestras, and his compositions have been performed internationally.

Tom van der Zaal

Born: 1987

orn and raised in The Hague – The Netherlands 1987, Tom was brought up in a musical family with his dad being an alto saxophone player. He has won several prestigious awards such as the Princes Christina Concours, Melkweg Jazz Award and most recent the Sena Jazz Award. In the last semester of his masters, Tom went to New York to study with greats like Aaron Goldberg and Greg Hutchinson. Over the years Tom shared stages with names like: Greg Hutchinson, Peter Erskine, Peter Bernstein, Joe Farnsworth, Reuben Rogers, Slide Hampton, James Carter, Philip Harper, Peter Beets, Rob van Bavel, Vincent Herring, John Ruocco to name a few and recorded as a sideman on the debut album of Floriaan Wempe featuring Willie Jones III.

Van der Zaal played in leading international venues like: Smalls (New York), Alexandrinsky Theatre (Saint Petersburg), Esse Jazzclub (Moscow), The Hat Bar (Berlin), A Trane (Berlin), Casa del Jazz (Rome), Warsaw Summer Jazz Fest (Warsaw), The North Sea Jazz Festival, The Hague Jazz Festival, The Bimhuis, Concertgebouw Amsterdam among others.

DeWitt Fleming Jr

Born: July 6, 1981

DeWitt, an acclaimed tap dancer, has performed and taught throughout the United States, and abroad. DeWitt has danced as a soloist with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and with artist such as Wynton Marsalis, Bobby McFerrin, Marvin Hamlisch, Christian McBride, Bobby Sanabria, and Wycliffe Gordon, among others.

Colin Gordon

Colin Gordon is a saxophonist, composer, and musical educator residing in Rochester, NY. Originally from Corning, NY, Colin began playing saxophone at age nine and by the time he was in high school was performing regularly with a variety of local musicians. Colin went on to pursue his musical training studying with distinguished artists Steve Wilson, Jon Gordon, Michael Moore, Eric Alexander and Ramon Ricker. He formally studied music at SUNY Purchase, Prince Claus Conservatory (The Netherlands) and is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) at Eastman School of Music. Colin has won various awards and prizes, most recently as the featured soprano saxophonist on Jennifer Bellor's piece Midnight Swim (2013) winning the DownBeat Outstanding Performance Award

Flavour

Flavour was created by pairing the talents of keyboard engineer and composer Lawrence Ross, with the big sound and delightful tones of saxophonist Bryne Donaldson. Formed in 2010 in Phoenix, AZ, the idea was a small footprint band with a big sound. The purpose: to satisfy a niche in the market for venues that had no stage for a full band, but yet still wanted live music. The combination of Bryne’s old school, gospel influences and Lawrence’s new age sounds is a unique and exciting blend. The group started playing cover tunes in upscale restaurants, resorts and country clubs in the Phoenix area

Seba Molnar

Born: April 30, 1994

Seba Molnar is a saxophonist, composer, and educator, based out of Boston, Massachusetts. Seba Molnar is a Berklee alumni with a degree in saxophone performance. While at Berklee, Seba had the opportunity to study with world-renowned saxophonists George Garzone, Bill Pierce, and Tia Fuller. Since graduating Seba has made a name for himself as an in demand saxophonist both as a side man and as a leader. Seba has performed and recorded with Grammy nominated artist Debo Ray, jazz legend George Garzone, Mighty Mystic, Kat Wright and many others. Seba frequently plays in Boston and around the greater New England area
