André Carvalho: The Garden Of Earthly Delights

by Dan Bilawsky
May 1, 2019

Inspired by the work of artist Hieronymus Bosch—his style in general and, of course, the titular painting—Carvalho set about composing a long-form work reflecting the range and balance of character(s) endemic to the mysterious Dutch painter's creations. This stunning suite is the result. ...

I tratti costanti ...

by Luca Muchetti
March 23, 2017

Non è una nota di demerito, anzi. Nel jazz uno degli aggettivi più usati e abusati è “cosmopolita," per indicare musica ...

by Matthew Aquiline
February 12, 2017

Zurich-based alto saxophonist and composer Niculin Janett, in the naming of his quartet's debut album, encapsulated the essence of his music with an otherwise vexatious phrase that regularly victimizes most city dwellers: No Parking Any Time. Although irritating for motorists, an ordinance prohibiting parking in terms of music, especially jazz, would seemingly stimulate perpetual movement and ...
