Gina Sicilia: Love Me Madly

by Doug Collette
It is not to disparage Gina Sicilia in any way to say that she has come of age with her ninth album, Love Me Madly. Produced by North Mississippi Allstars' Cody Dickinson and prominently featuring Luther Dickinson, his sibling and co-founder of that group, the record carries some cosmetic similarities to the vintage sound of Philadelphia ...

North Mississippi Allstars

Active since:
A forgotten roll of film inspired a musical accompaniment, the North Mississippi Allstars’ new record Up and Rolling. Shot before the turn of the century, the photographs resonate with the music of four families from the Mississippi hills. The album captures the communal spirit upon which the band was founded. In 1996, a photographer from Texas, Wyatt McSpadden, traveled to North Mississippi looking to photograph local musicians. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson had grown up just south of Memphis and cut their teeth playing experimental rock & roll together, as well as the roots repertoire pioneered by their father, Jim Dickinson, a legendary producer (Big Star, the Replacements) and session player (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan)
Colin Linden & Luther Dickinson: Amour

by Doug Collette
On Amour, Colin Linden (of Blackie & The Rodeo Kings) and Luther Dickinson (from North Mississippi Allstars) offer a collaborative paean to romantic love that is not entirely sentimental. Even on such an otherwise earnest effort, there is an inherent danger that might come across as campy, but the two guitarists/vocalists demonstrate an abiding loyalty to ...
John Hiatt: The Eclipse Sessions

by Doug Collette
Since John Hiatt hit his artistic and commercial stride with Bring The Family (A&M, 1987), the most listenable and durable albums of his have been those recorded with a band like the one appearing there (eventually known as Little Village: Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner). Offering comparably uniform musicianship in proportionate support of this ...

On All You Gotta Do, The Nighthawks illustrate how they've established, then nurtured their vaunted status among the most venerated of American blues units for over four decades and upwards of twenty albums. North Mississippi Allstars: The North Mississippi Allstars: Keys to the Kingdom

Following a hiatus of sorts for The North Mississippi Allstars, during which time guitarist Luther Dickinson worked with The Black Crowes while drummer sibling Cody fronted his own band, Hill Country Revue, the group's reformation has fueled a fire within the music of Keys to the Kingdom. The music begins to flow in a ...
