Jason Whatley

Born: April 14, 1979

Jason Whatley is a jazz pianist and composer based in Tasmania, Australia. His compositions admit the unmistakable influence of great jazz modernists like Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus and Wayne Shorter. He leads a quintet featuring fellow Tasmanian musicians Michael Woods (trumpet/flugelhorn), Damon Warner (saxophones), Hamish Houston (bass) and Beau Thomas (drums). He has released two albums with this lineup, Newfound Cool (2013) and On the Beak (2020).

Jesus Fuentes

Born: September 15, 1994

Jesús Fuentes was born in Cd. Juarez, Mexico. He is an active pianist, arranger and educator. Jesús is currently a DMA candidate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. holds a MM in Jazz Piano Performance from Texas Tech University and a BM in Commercial Music from the University of Texas at El Paso.

While Jesús is mainly a Jazz pianist, he has studied and regularly performs a variety of genres including Classical, Latin, and most commercial music styles. As a Jazz pianist he has played with world renowned artists such as Tom Harrell, Allen Vizzutti, Jaleel Shaw, Jiggs Wigham, and The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Trumpetist Antero Priha is a versatile and intuitive trumpet player and composer. He has played, composed and arranged music from many different genres and played and recorded with a great number of domestic and foreign top artists. He is a band musician and composer who leads he ´s own groups and projects. Antero has collaborated in various projects with: Ray Charles, Carla Bley, Freddie Hubbard, Maria Schneider, Joe Henderson & Gil Evans. Finnish stars J. Karjalainen, Ismo Alanko, Judge Bean, Pekka Pohjola, Jukka Linkola, Sakari Kukko, Upi Sorvali, Edward Wesala, Hasse Walli and Otto Donner have also been his musical co-operation partners. Priha has also created a career as a studio musician on television and radio, including Espoo Big Band and Umo Jazz orchestra as a soloist and musician. Jonathan Whitney

Born: July 21, 1977

Jonathan W. Whitney, the composer, drummer and artivist, blends jazz and classical elements in his compositions, drawing from his upbringing in Newark, Delaware, where his father's musical influence shaped his early years. His music, characterized by intricate melodies and textured arrangements, serves as a vehicle for exploration and understanding. Through meticulous research and intentional composition, Whitney crafts pieces that resonate both intellectually and emotionally with audiences. His diverse portfolio includes collaborations with choreographers, performances with renowned ensembles, and commissioned works like the jazz suite Cooch’s Bridge: The African American Presence, the mixed ensemble work When the Two Shall Meet, and Bedtime (originally for baroque ensemble and later orchestrated for string quartet) showcasing his depth and versatility as a composer.

Andrew Nixon

Born: October 1, 1983

As a child, Andrew began classical piano lessons with the late Suzanne Chapin, which he eventually quit, explaining to his parents that he did not like being told what to play. He spent the remainder of his childhood teaching himself, improvising, copying the classical music that he heard his sisters learning, and playing the trombone in various grade school ensembles.  

After several years playing keyboards in rock and blues bands around Buffalo and Rochester NY, he discovered jazz in 2006 and began studying with pianist/composer Paul Hofmann (Eastman School of Music). Now fully devoted to music, he went on to earn a master’s degree in music theory in 2012 from the University of Buffalo, where he also studied classical piano and composition.  After performing countless times in festivals and clubs in and around western New York, he began shifting his focus to composition in 2020.  

Kakafoni

Born: September 17, 1977

Pianist and composer Pelle Eriksson is the driving force behind the project Kakafoni. In the early 2000s, he got the idea to bring together melodic jazz, pop structures, improvisation, samples and loops and consolidate this into a whole. The band found its present form some years later and the first album was released in January 2013.

Piotr Budniak Essential Group

"Heart, Mind & Spirit" is the new album of Piotr Budniak Essential Group. The title loosely refers to the concept of a human being as the sum of the spirit, soul and body professed in early Christianity and derived from Hebrew philosophy. The assumption of the team is an attempt to capture the essence of human integrity with the whole palette of his feelings, thoughts, beliefs, experiences and struggles. The musical layer of the album differs from the choices made by the band, using, apart from - acoustic instruments - electric and enriching the whole with electronic elements and modern production procedures.
