Les Productions Sonia Johnson, headquartered in Montreal, produced its first CD, Don’t explain in 2005 with the help of a grant from the Fondation du maire de Montréal pour la jeunesse [the Montreal Mayor’s Foundation for Youth]. The artist garnered critical acclaim for her first release. This first production allowed the jazz vocalist to gain recognition in her artistic field and new collaborations arose, such as her participation in Frédéric Alarie’s project Sous Hôte Tension part of the 2006 edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. Sharing a common vision of jazz music, Frédéric and Sonia decided to explore composing together, and were then joined by pianist Luc Beaugrand and drummer Camil Belisle

After spending 13 years performing in function bands, jazz bands and duos in a huge range of venues both private and public and singing material from pop through jazz standards to contemporary jazz I am delighted to welcome you to my own compositions with my debut album. I am influenced by classical and jazz music but am very drawn to contemporary jazz/folk such as Lauren Kinsella; singer-songwriters such as David Sylvian, Kate Bush and Laura Mvula and spoken word poets performing sometimes to music such as Kate Tempest and Selena Godden. The themes of this album are Belonging/Not Belonging; Finding your voice and Not having a Voice

Bob Levy
Bob Levy is an multi award winning ASCAP songwriter. His career started in New York City when he was twenty-two, co-writing with singer-songwriter Ronny Whyte. That songwriting partnership continues today creating jazz songs that have been performed at many New York clubs like Birdland, Pangea and The Kitano and have also been featured in major television programs. Bob's collaboration with Australian born singer/songwriter Karen Jacobsen, "THIS TIME" was a 2009 MAC (Manhattan Assoc. of Cabarets) nominee for song of the year. Bob also collaborates with multi-talented New York composer and musical director Alex Rybeck and their song, "HE REMEMBERS, SHE REMEMBERS", recorded by Joyce Breach, was a 2014 MAC nominee for best song
