Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Make Magic Happen
by Karl Ackermann
Guitarist Jon Lundbom, with his Big Five Chord quintet, has developed the unusual marketing strategy of individually presenting each of a series of four EPs (at lower price points) over the course of 2016 with an option to purchase all as a box set. At approximately one half-hour each, it's a generous proposition; more so, given ...
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Make Magic Happen
by Dan McClenaghan
The computer/internet age ushers in new ways of selling music. Record stores, flipping through bins of long playing albums--long gone. Compact discs--not selling like they used to. Digital downloads--the thing of the future? Guitarist Jon Lundbom has come up with the idea--influenced by trumpeter Dave Douglas' foray into this territory, perhaps, with his Three Views (Greenleaf, ...
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Jeremiah
by Vincenzo Roggero
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Jeremiah
by Mark Corroto
The seventh album by guitarist Jon Lundbom and his septet Big Five Chord leaves little room for fence sitters. His music, like fellow band members Jon Irabagon and Moppa Elliott of Mostly Other People Do The Killing, walks the razor's edge between clamorous and cultured. It's comfort is often the discombobulation. That said, isn't that what ...
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: No New Tunes
by AAJ Italy Staff
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Quavers! Quavers! Quavers! Quavers!
by Glenn Astarita
Since 2003, guitarist Jon Lundbom and his Big Five Chord unit have been crashing and slashing through the jazz-rock idiom, often lying on the perimeter of the avant-garde spectrum. With a support band comprised of solo artists and first-call session aces, the music is often hard-edged and chockfull of off-kilter innuendoes and ballsy soloing excursions.
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Quavers!Quavers!Quavers!Quavers!

Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Accomplish Jazz
by AAJ Italy Staff
Other People Do the Killing: ...
Jon Lundbom & Big Five Chord: Accomplish Jazz
by Raul d'Gama Rose
There is a refreshing, albeit immediate, sense of naïveté about the music of guitarist Jon Lundbom. As the music progresses, however, it becomes evident that Lundbom wears this almost childlike wonder as a rather thin mask, belying a graceful sophistication that marks an apparent determination to go beyond the mere skin of sound. This is eminently ...
