Brad Allen

“I grew up in a small town in Nebraska. Not exactly a hotbed of jazz. But I got hooked on jazz drumming after my drum instructor took me to a live performance by jazz drumming legend, Buddy Rich”, says Allen. Brad Allen spent several years as a musician in the U.S. Army Band before settling into the Kansas City music scene. “After I saw The Army Blues, which was the Army’s top touring jazz band, I decided I could go into the military and play jazz. It was a good experience for a while. Eventually though, I felt like I wanted to get out of the military and move to a city where I could play with world class jazz players,” says Allen. He visited Kansas City and picked up a copy of JAM, the Kansas City Jazz Ambassador’s magazine

Alexis Tantau

With extensive training as classical singer and having sung with various opera companies locally and abroad, it came as something of a surprise when the door to the world of jazz swung wide open for Miss Tantau less than two years ago. Planning to specialize in French art song and opera, she took several trips to study in France, including a year to study Occitan, the endangered language of her ancestors. Over the years, she took her teachers’ suggestions to sing Edith Piaf songs lightheartedly—until she began landing more gigs singing Piaf than Bizet! Her highly-sought renditions of famous French songs by the likes of Edith Piaf, Eartha Kitt, and Charles Trenet wonderfully compliment the WWII era vibe of the Hot Club, showing off her lustrous vocal timbre, and delicious French diction.

Niebla

Spanish singer and composer Pepa Niebla is renowned for her vocal versatility that has allowed her to be involved in a great variety of projects: from blues, soul and jazz to Cuban son and popular music. Living in Granada, Havana, London and Brussels gave her the opportunity to grow, learn and experiment in different genres. Now, settled in Belgium, Niebla has found her sound and direction as an artist, bringing to life her own compositions and arrangements with her new project: The Pepa Niebla Quintet. 2020 will see the release of Renaissance, Niebla’s first album of original compositions (following her releases Pepa Niebla Project and Pepa Niebla & Ricky Vivar), featuring guitarist Toni Mora, pianist Maxime Moyaerts, double bassist Alex Gilson and award-winning drummer Daniel Jonkers

MUSICIAN Born:

Jennifer Derrick Adams

For the love of it is my first studio album. As a little girl I would tell anyone who would listen, “when I grow up i’m going to be a singer”. Here I am grown up, having been for quite sometime now and this debut is the realization of this life-long dream. Over the years I would step into the Seattle Jazz scene, scratch the itch, then step back out to manage my day gig, be a mother and deal with the crushing self doubt that can accompany standing on a stage and singing in front of strangers. I exchanged my passion for pragmatism. Singing in private, showing up at open mic nights, attending workshops and it occurred to me that it was time to put it on record, for the love of the music; the love for my son, may everything he does, and you do, be for the love of it.
