In 2017, Ivor Novello Award-winning and GRAMMY® Award-nominated legend Richard Thompson gave himself up to the music itself. Picking up a guitar, emotions echoed through his deft fleet-fingered fretwork, poetic songwriting, impassioned picking. Those transmissions comprise his nineteenth solo album, 13 Rivers. “I never really think about what songs mean,” he admits. “I just write them. Some of them reflect on what happened a few months ago or even a year ago. Jussi Reijonen

Born: November 11, 1980

Born in Rovaniemi, a small town on the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, fretted/fretless guitarist and oud player Jussi Reijonen is truly a product of the liminal spaces between cultures.

Having grown up in Finland, Jordan, Tanzania, Oman and Lebanon, and spending much of his adulthood in the United States, Jussi has lived a life soaking up sounds, sights, scents and shades of Nordic, Arabic, African and North American aesthetics and expression, all of which are reflected in his creative work as composer and performer.

Jussi’s debut album un | ان [unmusic 2013] was released to great critical acclaim, with Guitar Player magazine referring to it as “extraordinary music” and Lucid Culture calling it a “still, spacious, slowly unwinding masterpiece”. The album was nominated for an Independent Music Award in 2014.

Sandro Zerafa

Guitarist born in Malta in 1975. Studied at University of Malta and Lyons Conservatory (France) with Mario Stantchev and Jean-Louis Almosnino. Moved to Paris in 2000. 3rd prize winner at La Defense National Jazz Contest. Regular member of the Nico Gori European 4tet. Leads his own 5tet featuring David Prez, Olivier Zanot, Yoni Zelnik and David Georgelet. I am a graduate student at Brooklyn College working on my M.A. in Musicology. I studied Jazz Performance as an undergraduate at Hofstra University with Rick Stone. At the moment I am working on building a body of written work in eventual preparation for a Ph.D. in Musicology. I fell in love with jazz after seeing my friend play guitar in our Middle School Jazz Band and from that moment on I didn't really have the same kind of interest in my first instrument, the viola. I am especially interested in Straight-Ahead jazz and Free-Jazz/Avant-Garde music. John Peter Giunta

John Peter Giunta is a conservatory-trained musician and performance artist who recognizes and demonstrates the aesthetic relationships of the arts with each other. His programs contain his specialty, classical guitar compositions, and there are other elements as well. He also combines poetry, visual art pieces and movement with his improvisations on guitars, as well as flutes, glass harp and other instruments. With the assistance of electronic instruments, he can combine the sounds of several instruments at once while playing them live. Dan Hanrahan

Dan Hanrahan is a jazz guitarist based in Philadelphia. A graduate of Temple University, Dan performs regularly throughout the area as both a leader and sideman. He has played with musicians such as Larry McKenna, Terell Stafford, Tim Warfield, John Swana, and Pat Bianchi. Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, DC, Dan began playing the guitar at the age of 11. After several years of playing hard rock and blues, Dan developed a passion for jazz. In 2005, he moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple University, where he studied jazz guitar with Craig Ebner and Tom Giacabetti. In addition, Dan has studied classical guitar with William Newman

Martin Högberg

Originally from Sweden, moved to Norway in 2003, now teaches jazz guitar at the conservatory in Trondheim and pursues a solo jazz guitar career.
