Nadav Remez
Nadav Remez is a jazz guitarist, composer, and arranger whose music lives at the intersection of modern jazz, alternative rock and Jewish folk. Known for his haunting tone and understated, imaginative writing, he has become a distinctive voice in the global jazz community.
His forthcoming album Summit, out August 2025, brings together Greg Tardy, Guy Moskovich, Ben Tiberio, and David Sirkis for a set of emotionally charged compositions spanning two decades of writing. The album marks a new creative high point in Remez’s career, weaving together deeply personal themes with rich group interplay. Recorded at Dreamland Studios in upstate New York, Summit captures the intimate yet expansive sound of a band that has grown together on and off stage.
Remez’s artistic journey found early momentum at the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts, renowned for producing international jazz talents. There, he was exposed to a variety of musical traditions, both Western and Eastern, which he molded into his unique musical vision. In 2005, he received a full scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston and later completed his Master's in Music at the New England Conservatory in 2008. During these formative years, he had the opportunity to study with notable musicians such as Joe Lovano, Billy Hart, George Garzone, Miguel Zénon, and Tim Miller.
In 2011, Remez released his debut album, So Far, on Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records. The album features nine original compositions that blend modern jazz, alternative rock, and Middle-Eastern influences. Critics praised the album for its poignant melodies, rich harmonies, and stirring improvisations. That same year, he joined forces with celebrated jazz bassist Omer Avital, performing regularly with Avital's ensembles, including the New Jerusalem Orchestra and Omer Avital and his Band of the East. He also appeared as a special guest with Third World Love at the Teatro Manzoni in Milan in 2012 and co-led a performance at the Atlanta Jazz Festival that same year with the Nadav Remez/Omer Avital Quintet.
In 2014, Remez contributed to Haggai Cohen Milo's album Penguin, released on Tzadik Records. In 2018, Remez collaborated with big band composer and arranger Juan Andrés Ospina on his album Tramontana. In 2019, a live trio recording by ELK3—a free improvisation trio with Tyshawn Sorey and Antonin Tri Hoang—was released on OutNow Recordings, capturing a raw improvised set performed at the Banff Jazz Workshop.
Remez also co-leads Fishes, a power trio with keyboardist Steve Brickman and drummer Daniel Dor, known for its genre-defying debut Fishes In Space (2019).
