Keith Tippett

Born: August 25, 1947

For over thirty years Keith Tippett has been at the forefront of contemporary European jazz and new music. In the late 1960s, Tippett led a sextet featuring Elton Dean on saxophone, Mark Charig on trumpet and Nick Evans on trombone. Tippett married singer Julie Driscoll and wrote scores for TV. In the early 1970s, his big band Centipede brought together much of a generation of young British jazz and rock musicians. As well as performing some concerts (limited economically by the size of the band), they recorded one double-album, Septober Energy. He formed, with Harry Miller and Louis Moholo a formidable rhythm section at the centre of some of the most exciting combinations in the country, including the Elton Dean quartet, and Elton Dean's Ninesense

Mike Bullock

Born: October 20, 1973

Mike Bullock is a bassist, composer, improviser, visual artist, and writer based in Western Massachusetts. Bullock has been performing since the mid 90s at venues across the US and in Europe, including Fylkingen in Stockholm, Sweden; Instants Chavirés in Paris; Café OTO in London; Experimental Intermedia and ISSUE Project Room in New York City; The Philadelphia Museum of Art; and EMPAC in Troy, NY. In June 2015, Bullock received a Performance Grant from the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage. Rex Richardson

Hailed in classical circles as “among the very best trumpet soloists in the world today,” (Journal of the ITG, 2011) and “One of the finest virtuosos of our time” (Brass Herald, 2018) and in jazz as “a standout soloist with the power, range and flexibility to rival Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw,” (DownBeat Magazine, 2014) Yamaha Performing Artist Rex Richardson was named the 2008 Brass Herald International Personality of the Year.

A veteran of the acclaimed chamber ensemble Rhythm & Brass, jazz legend Joe Henderson’s Quintet and Sextet, William Russo’s Chicago Jazz Ensemble, and the Brass Band of Battle Creek, known as the world’s “Rolls Royce of Brass Bands” (Brass Band World), he stays busy as a headline artist at international brass and jazz festivals and as a soloist with orchestras, concert bands, brass bands and jazz ensembles on six continents. These include Phoenix Symphony and Thailand Philharmonic Orchestras, the U.S. Army Field Band and Tokyo Symphonic Winds, England's Fodens Brass Band, and the U.S. Air Force's Airmen of Note Jazz Ensemble.

Jean-Michel Pilc

Born: October 19, 1960

Born in 1960 in Paris, France, now also an American and Canadian citizen, self-taught pianist and composer Jean-Michel Pilc has performed with numerous jazz giants: Roy Haynes, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Rick Margitza, Michel Portal, Daniel Humair, Marcus Miller, Kenny Garrett, Lenny White, Chris Potter, John Abercrombie, Mingus Dynasty & Big Band, Lew Soloff, Richard Bona etc. He has also worked with Harry Belafonte, as his musical director and pianist, and has performed a duet with the legendary opera singer Jessye Norman.

Cheryl Richards

Born: August 20

Vocalist Cheryl Richards moved to New York City in 2000 and has been singing jazz and improvised music since 2002. She studied with the great jazz pianist and improviser {{m: Connie Crothers = 6000}} for more than 15 years.

In the last several years, she has performed at venues throughout New York including the 55 Bar, the Stone, Greenwich Music House, Why Not Jazz Room, Cornelia Street Café, and Zeb’s in Manhattan as well as iBeam, Roulette, Galapagos Art Space, The Drawing Room, Mirror Teahouse, and Cafe Orwell in Brooklyn. Her newest CD, If Not For You—featuring guitarist Adam Caine and alto saxophonist Nick Lyons—was released on New Artists Records. Cheryl began singing at age 11 when she joined the award-winning Seattle Girls’ Choir.

Baggiani

Born: September 7, 1973

Marcos Baggiani (Argentina 1973) is a drummer, composer and producer. Born in Buenos Aires, he moved to Amsterdam in 2001, where he studied at the Conservatorium and gained an MA in Jazz. Enlightened and inspired by his encounters with the impro/jazz scene in the Netherlands, Marcos has evolved into a creative, powerful and versatile musician. Established ensembles include Jerboah, The Ambush Party, the C.B.G and bAgg*fisH. Marcos has collaborated with such improvisers as Ellery Eskelin, Shahzad Ismaily, Michael Moore, Sylvie Courvoisier, Ernst Reijsiger, John Edwards, Luc Ex, Oren Marshall, Wolter Wierbos, Ingrid Laubrock, Ab Baars and Achim Kaufmann, playing all over Europe and America

Cath Roberts

Born: October 11, 1983

Cath Roberts’ work explores free improvisation, composition and the music at their meeting point. Her primary outlet as a composer and improviser on baritone saxophone is the quintet Sloth Racket, which has toured widely and released several albums. She leads ten piece improvising ensemble Favourite Animals, and has a long-standing duo with guitarist Anton Hunter, Ripsaw Catfish. As bandmate, Cath is a member of Madwort Sax Quartet, Vole, Article XI and Alex Ward’s Item 10 amongst other groups. She co-runs LUME with Dee Byrne, producing concerts, tours and festivals since 2013 and releasing music on an offshoot label, Luminous

Thollem McDonas

Born: 1967

Thollem is a perpetually traveling pianist, keyboardist, composer, improviser, singer-songwriter, activist, author and teacher. He's spent most of his life living on the road throughout North America and Europe. His work is ever-changing, evolving and responding to the times and his experiences, both as a soloist and in collaboration with hundreds of artists across idioms and disciplines. Thollem's known internationally as an acoustic piano player in the free jazz and post- classical worlds, as the lead vocalist for the Italian agit-punk band Tsigoti and as an electronic keyboardist through a multitude of projects. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Thollem began playing the piano, composing and improvising as a child, absorbing the sounds of his culturally diverse upbringing

Daniel Weltlinger

Born: October 5, 1977

Born in Sydney, Australia in 1977 and of French-Austro-Hungarian-Israeli family background, the critically acclaimed Berlin-based violinist and composer-producer Daniel Weltlinger has long been renowned worldwide for his distinctive warm sound and innovations within the genres of Gypsy-swing, jazz, Yiddish-klezmer and experimental/free-improvised music. He is frequently in demand in a recording or performance capacity, often in collaboration with an array of top musicians and ensembles in a variety of different formats, and is highly sought after for his technical and musical mastery on his main instrument

Andrew Joron
