Richard Gilman-Opalsky was born in Connecticut in 1973. He spent ten years living in NYC playing drums in various experimental music and freejazz groups, before moving to Springfield, Illinois where he continues to perform, organizes a freejazz and creative music forum, and co-runs Fire&Flux Recordings. --------- I started playing the drums between 8 and 10 years of age. My parents bought me my first kit, a toy drumset with an "Animal" motif from Jim Henson's Muppet Show. Soon thereafter I enrolled for drum lessons with an older man in town, a professional jazz drummer whose first name was Joe and whose last name I may never have known

Michel Lambert
Born to a family synonymous with classical music in his native Quebec, Lambert studied drums and composition at Boston's Berklee College of Music, attended workshops in Paris, and studied privately with saxophonist/composer Dave Liebman in New York and pianist/ composer Misha Mengelberg in Amsterdam. Since his first professional engagement with pianist/composer Milcho Leviev's trio in 1983, he has recorded extensively and performed hroughout Asia, Canada, Europe and the United States. Accomplished as both a composer and visual artist, excerpts from his first orchestral work, “Le Journal Des Episodes,” were premiered in 1992 by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and his oil paintings earned him a commission from the Canada Council to illustrate a 4-CD compilation of Canadian music to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations

John Dare

A native of Auburn, NY, where his father and grandfather also based long drumming careers, John began playing drums at age four, learning rudiments from his grandfather. Music, especially Jazz, was an integral part of the Dare family life. Some of John’s earliest memories are of helping his Dad set up his drums for a gig, or watching his older brother’s band rehearse. ( both his older brothers also played drums ) At a very early age, John was exposed to and taught about the lineage of great drummers, such as “Papa Jo” Jones, Davey Tough, Shelly Manne, etc.. John took lessons in school, and played in all the ensembles

Drummer Kelli Strawbridge, 24 and taken, loves playing jazz, r&b, funk, rock, alternative or any other style whenever he gets the chance. Kelli also enjoys writing and programming music, walks on the beach, chocolate shakes and playing trumpet and piano. In July 2003, Kelli organized his own quintet (KSTRAW) with Matt Balestino or Alan Parker on guitar, Matt Hall or Jamie Desanti on bass, Jason Gay or Tim Turner on saxes and Mark Ingraham on trumpets and flugel, plus special guests Doug Bethel and Sam Savage on trombones. BIOGRAPHY * Daniel Messina was born on April 9th, 1965 in José C. Paz, Buenos Aires, Argentina. * At the age of six, he began to play drums and guitar. He learned to play drums on his own for almost ten years by playing along different records and using a book by Gene Krupa. His first teacher for about three years was Omar Belmonte. After that, he studied five year longs with Elias "Chiche" Heger at the Escuela Nacionál de Bater�-a y Percusión. During that time, he played in different bands like for example Apertura, Quinteto el Quartetazo or the Baden Jazz Quartett. * He also wrote a workshop column in the music magazine "El musiquero" from October 1989 until June 1991. * At the age of 26, Daniel Messina emigrated to Germany

Rick Frank

Rick Frank began playing jazz drums at age 10 after hearing a dixieland jazz band at a local fair in Central NY. He played with dixieland groups with adults 3 to 4 times his age while still in middle school and high school, playing at the Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival, and numerous concerts and clubs around Central NY. He started studying drumset with Jazz Drummer Dick Howard in the 8th Grade. In addition, he started to listen to Miles Davis and other more modern jazz artists, quickly moving through the various styles before he was done with High School. He moved to Boston in 1976, and instantly began playing jazz clubs and commercial gigs in Boston with local established musicians
