Dewa Budjana

Born:
Guitarist, composer and producer Dewa Budjana (pronounce Dèh-wah Boo-djana) was born on 30 August 1963, in Waikabubak, Bali, Indonesia. (It is an area considered by those who know it to be a tropical paradise.) Dewa has established a solid body of work as a jazz artist on numerous solo albums (featuring a "who's who" list of current jazz luminaries), while also being the lead guitarist and songwriter of the Indonesian nationally-celebrated pop/rock band, Gigi. His fluidity and grace in both rock and jazz idioms has firmly established his position among the very elite guitarists in the world, as well, perhaps, as Indonesia's most well-known and highly-regarded guitarist ever. Dewa’s journey as a musician started at the early age of eleven, when he bought his first guitar

Dewa Budjana: Surya Namaskar

by John Kelman
There was a time when artists were able to release albums on their own schedule rather than that of the record label. While most jazz artists release, at most, one album a year these days, for some there's an even longer gap between recordings. For the most part, the days when an artist like Miles Davis ...

Beledo: Seriously Deep

by Chris M. Slawecki
Beledo's second MoonJune release flows through the listener's ears like the cinematic adaptation of an epic novel, but in sound. Seriously Deep quite deliberately moves from scene to scene (song to song), building up and releasing tension in music that sounds much too powerful and deep to have been primarily created by only three musicians: Uruguayan ...
Monsters from the Jazzlab

by Chris M. Slawecki
Rodrigo Almonte Distancia Odradek Records 2021 Every piece of music on Distancia is an honest representation of a pilgrimage of different distances that I had to walk, musically and geographically speaking, in order to find inspiration and to create a representation of myself as a musical ...
