Free Range Rat: Nut Club
by Florence Wetzel
Nut Club is chock-full of interesting songs, demonstrating the originality of the group known as Free Range Rat, as well as its intelligence and warmth. The band is composed of uniformly strong players: John Carlson (trumpet and flugelhorn), Eric Hipp (tenor sax), Shawn McGloin (bass), and George Schuller (drums and percussion), here with special guest Douglas ...
Otomo Yoshihide's New Jazz Quintet: Live in Lisbon
by AAJ Italy Staff
Will Holshouser: Singing To A Bee
by Budd Kopman
The first thing one notices about Singing To A Bee is the intricate packaging of folded cardboard with a magnetic catch (!) to hold the assembly together. Having never seen anything quite like this before (the winner in packaging originality thus far was Gebhard Ullmann's 1993 recording Ta Lam, released by 99 Records), I was more ...
Elliott Sharp: Sharp? Monk? Sharp! Monk!
by Mark Corroto
Elliott Sharp might have once been described as a skinny kid from Cleveland, Ohio who has come to steal your women and drink your beer. But that, my friends, was a long time ago. A graduate of the New York Downtown scene of the 1980s and 1990s, Sharp has branched out into string quartets, hard-core blues, ...
Adam Lane`s Full Throttle Orchestra: New Magical Kingdom
by AAJ Italy Staff
Free Range Rat: Nut Club
by AAJ Italy Staff
All'ascolto dell'album, tuttavia, ci sembrano più ...
The Diplomats: We Are Not Obstinate Islands
by AAJ Italy Staff
Will Holshouser Trio: Singing to a Bee
by AAJ Italy Staff
Certo negli States ...
Free Range Rat: Nut Club
by Troy Collins
Initially formed to explore the tone science of visionary bandleader Sun Ra, this collective ensemble orbits Herman “Sonny" Blount's world without falling into its gravitational pull. Journeying to other territories, the members of Free Range Rat explore a plethora of improvisational gambits that are ripe with energy, delivering them with aplomb. Taking their name ...
Vinny Golia Quartet: Sfumato
by AAJ Italy Staff
