Saxophonist and composer Michel Nirenberg, a native of Rio de Janeiro, has been carving out a niche in the Washington, DC jazz scene since coming to the United States in 2012. He has already made a name for himself in Brazil, performing in many festivals and winning in competitions throughout the country while earning a bachelor’s degree in music at the top of his class from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). In 2014, he graduated with a master’s degree in music from James Madison University, where he was a teaching assistant and active performer. Journeys

Geovane Santos

Geovane Santos, an Afro Brazilian from the city of Belo Horizonte currently living in New Orleans, is a guitarist, vocalist, composer, researcher, videographer, and educator. Awarded the 2017 Louis Armstrong Foundation Jazz Composer Award through ASCAP in association with the University of New Orleans (UNO), Santos’ creative work and scholarship explore the intersectionalities of race, transculturation, culture appropriation, and processes of narrative building in music.

Manoel Cruz is a prominent figure in Brazilian instrumental music, widely recognized for his mastery as a bassist, composer, arranger, and producer. Based in São Paulo, his artistry seamlessly fuses the refined techniques of contemporary jazz with the rhythmic richness of regional Brazilian sounds, ranging from baião and maracatu to samba and forró.

GUAI

A Brazilian, who has Brazil and jazz engrained in her voice and soul, GUAI made her first stage appearance at the age of four. In 2016, she independently released her debut album, entitled DAMA DE PAUS; a bold and conceptual work, which generated rave reviews from important music journalists as well as the biggest names of Brazilian music, such as Roberto Menescal, Ivan Lins and Carlos Lyra. She was nominated for the biggest music awards in Brazil in 2011, 2012 and 2017. That year, she also launched her career internationally in Lisbon, Portugal, where she is currently based. Tiago Mineiro

Born: August 28, 1983

In 2005, after studying with great musicians from Minas Gerais and graduating from the State Conservatory of Varginha, he moved to São Paulo to immerse himself in his musical career, studying with one of the greatest jazz teachers in Brazil, pianist Wilson Curia. He was also a student of the first Advanced Hammond class (organ) in Brazil, recognized by Suzuki-Hammond International, a course taught by Emílio Mendonça. In 2008 he began working with the legendary guitarist Lanny Gordin and the band Kaoll, resulting in the album “Auto-Hipnose”, an instrumental CD with more than 5,000 copies sold

Paula Maya

Paula Maya is an award winning Brazilian pianist, keyboardist, singer, composer and recording artist, nominated Best Brazilian Musician living in the US. The official release of her eleventh album Mar da Minha Terra, Yellow House Records, is July 25th 2023.

Paula Maya has songs in several compilations with artists such as Jimmy Cliff. She holds a degree from the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro. Her compositions have roots in Brazilian traditional rhythms and melodies, such as maracatú, baião and samba. They are also inspired and influenced by bossa nova, jazz, blues, Cuban music and African music. 

Camila Ronza

Born: February 10, 1995

Camila Ronza. Born on February 10, 1995, in São Paulo, Brazil. From an early age, she had contact with music because of her very musical family, who always inspired and encouraged her. As a child, she joined OSESP Children's Choir and performed as a solo singer, so she soon decided to be a singer and make music her profession. Camila completed her bachelor's degree in Popular Music Vocal Performance at Faculdade de Música Souza Lima, in the city of São Paulo, in 2016. In the following year, she was granted a scholarship from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation to continue her studies in France, at the Center des Musiques Didier Lockwood (CMDL), where she graduated from the professional course “Le Jazz et les Musiques Improvisées”, returning to Brazil in July 2019. During her undergraduate course, she became a member of the Youth Choir of the State of São Paulo, and of Nômade, a vocal and body percussion group

Arie Salma

Pianist/Keyboardist/Composer Arie Salma is a versatile musician who focuses on Jazz-Fusion music, many times with World influences. Born to Spanish parents in Israel, Arie was exposed to elements of Flamenco, Latin, African and Mediterranean music, which he likes blending with his Jazz playing and compositions.

Arie was introduced to Jazz as a young teenager, listening to giants such as Chick Corea, George Benson, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Weather Report and others. After completing his musical degree in Rimon School of Jazz in Israel, and playing aside with many local famous artists, Arie moved to the US. He took part in a variety musical projects, many of them being his own creation. In 2010, Arie created the Flamenco-Jazz musical group Sonido, along with Guitarist Rob Math. Sonido got and still gets played in many Jazz radio stations around the globe and received substantial reviews. Among contributors to the band were Drummer John Ferraro, Bassist Hussain Jiffry, Percussionist Bob Conti (played w Donna Summer, Jose Feliciano) and legendary Percussionist, Alex Acuna. The band played in many known Jazz venues such as Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles. Arie has also collaborated with various world artists such as renown multi-instrumentalists, Omar Faruk Tekbilek and Grammy awarded Brazilian singer, Luciana Souza.
