Ruben Rodriguez

But for the best of the best, put your money on the ones that other musicians talk about. Among Latin bass players, that's Ruben Rodriguez. His first big gig was with Johnny Colon in 1979. Since then he's worked with Tito Rojas, Luis Ramirez, Ray de la Paz, Willie Colon, Dave Valentin, Charlie and Eddie Palmieri, Hilton Ruiz, Johnny Pacheco, Jose Fajardo, The Fania All Stars, and the late great Machito to name just a few. Gerald Cannon

Born in Racine, Wisconsin, Gerald’s initial inspiration was his father Benjamin, a guitarist, who bought him his first electric bass at the ripe young age of 10. He began playing bass in his father’s group ‘The Gospel Expressions' and he never looked back. Gerald attended The University of Wisconsin at La Crosse where he met jazz great Milt Hinton. This meeting not only changed Gerald’s major in college from physical education to music, it also changed the rest of his life.

Gerald transferred to the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee, where he spent the next four years studying jazz bass, classical bass and piano. He also studied art at Marquette University, which nurtured a natural talent and love of painting. Outside of school, Gerald began working as musical director with singer and mentor Penny Goodwin. This experience led to the creation of his own quintet ‘Gerald Cannon’s Jazz Elements,’ which laid the foundation for a solid reputation as a leader and composer in his own right.

Frank Herzberg

Bassist Frank Herzberg - born in East Berlin - began playing drums at the age of 7. Influenced strongly by his older brother, the bassist Hartmut Herzberg, he switched to the instrument which captured his heart. He became a violin maker in Markneukirchen - one of Germanys centres of instrument making and started in 1990 to study double bass at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin with Kammervirtuose Gerd Reinke. Frank won a scholarship to study at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston. There he was lucky to take classes with Charlie Banacos and Hal Crook in Jazz Improvisation and graduated from Berklee with the Bachelor of Music in Jazz Composition and Performance. Frank returned to Berlin, where he completed his classical studies at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler

Tim Kiah

Tim Kiah is a Brooklyn based composer, vocalist, and bassist. As a composer, his works have been premiered at venues such as Lincoln Center and Carnegie hall, and have been broadcast on NPR. As a member and composer of the Chelsea Symphony, he premiered his tenth symphonic work with the orchestra this season. As a vocalist, bass player, and arranger, Tim tours internationally. He performs many genres of music, including Americana, jazz, classical, and avant-garde. He has been aired on NPR, BBC, and NDR, with and is a featured member and co-composer in Roy Nathanson’s Sotto Voce ensemble. Kiah is also a member of a group led by the iconic mandolinist and clarinetist Andy Statman, and has recorded and performed with Deborah Harry, Joan LaBarbara, and Lenny Kravitz

Tony Scherr

Tony Scherr is arguably one of the most in-demand sidemen in New York City. The list is long; as a bassist, guitarist, or singer Tony has worked with: Bill Frisell Trio, Sexmob, John Lurie's Lounge Lizards, Willie Nelson, Rickie Lee Jones, Ani DiFranco, Jason Collett (Broken Social Scene), Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Madeleine Peyroux, Jesse Harris, Richard Julian, Sasha Dobson, Shawn Colvin, The Abrams Brothers, Kevin Kinney (Drivin N Cryin), and Teddy Thompson to name a few. He still tours, records, and plays around town regularly with a very broad range of artists, and has played on many albums, movie and television scores. In the 1990's, Tony built his own 8 track analog studio where he has recorded and played on numerous albums

Santi Debriano

Trifon Dimitrov

Trifon Dimitrov was born in Pleven, Bulgaria. He graduated from the National Academy of Music in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2002. As a student he performed for local and international jazz festivals, jazz clubs, recorded for the Bulgarian National Radio and Television. While studying in Frankfurt, Germany between 2002 and 2004, he was a member of a trio opening jam sessions every Wednesday in the world famous Jazz Keller. Trifon moved to New York in 2004 and graduated from the Brooklyn-Queens Conservatory of Music. Currently living in NY and performing throughout USA and Europe. Trifon has performed at numerous Jazz Festivals, clubs, TV and Radio shows true out the world as well as Broadway shows in NYC

Matt Dwonszyk

Born in Hartford, CT, Dwonszyk started playing the electric bass at age eleven. His journey into the world of jazz began at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts High School where he began playing the upright bass. He also started attending the Artists Collective after school program playing in the Youth Jazz Orchestra. The Artist Collective, founded by jazz saxophone legend Jackie McLean, propelled Dwonszyk to continue his studies at the The Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at The University of Hartford.

Dwonszyk quickly developed an exceptionally strong rapport with Professor Nat Reeves and Professor Steve Davis. Reeves instilled a strong sense of swing, conviction and vocabulary upon Dwonszyk while Davis would hire Dwonszyk for gigs at local venues around the Hartford area. This schooling inside and outside of the classroom helped Dwonszyk become one of the top call bassist in Connecticut.

Mark Hagan

Mark Hagan’s early years were spent in and around the Detroit area were he first developed an interest in music and jazz in particular. “Some of my earliest memories are of going to classical concerts with my parents. Then around the age of ten I heard the playing of a local bassist James Jameson and there was no turning back. From Motown it did not take long before I was listening to jazz. I remember walking to elementary school in the morning with this be-bop solo going on in my head and it would still be there when I got home at the end of the day”. After high school, where Mark had gained a reputation as a solid bassist and composer, he received a call to go on the road with a band touring the Midwest for a year
