Steve Grout
Born:
Acoustic Bass and electric guitar, starting in High School. Spent 1956 at North Texas, then returned to Iowa State and an engineering degree, playing gigs. Couple notable mentions include competing in the 1st Annual Notra Dame Jazz Festival with my 52' Les Paul, as well as Herbie Hancock sitting in on a couple of gigs back at Iowa State (he was a student at Grinnell at that time.) My engineering path led me to developing a line of high power transistor power amps, with many of my power amplifier designs found today in equipment such as Peavey Power Equalizers. Often find myself advising bands on proper use of sound equipment to get CD quality sound on normal gigs. Retired now from electronics CAD, am again able to focus on my bass (tho its electric - miss my Acoustic very much!)
