Enrico Fazio

Enrico Fazio has pursued a jazz career after a master of music degree for double bass and a bachelor with honours in music disciplines. During the European Year of Music of 1985, he obtained a scholarship from the Cini Foundation of Venice and in 1989 he won the first prize in the National Competition of jazz composition and arrangement organised by the Festival of S.Anna Arresi and dedicated to C. Mingus. Since 1999 he made educational experiences in jazz teaching; currently Professor of Jazz Composition and Arranging and Head Department of Jazz at the Conservatory “A. Vivaldi ” in Alessandria. Along with others jazz musicians in 1977, Fazio became founder of C.M.C

Reuben Rogers

Reuben Rogers was imbued with both groove and spirit from birth. Raised in the Virgin Islands by parents who were both ministers, Rogers grew up playing gospel in church while absorbing the calypso and reggae rhythms of the islands. The discovery of jazz in his teens added the elements of freedom and improvisation to those innate qualities, creating the unique chemistry that would make Rogers one of the most distinctive and in- demand bassists in modern jazz. Rogers’ versatile mastery of both the acoustic and electric bass has led to opportunities on stages around the world alongside some of the music’s most renowned artists, including Charles Lloyd, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Tomasz Stanko, Roy Hargrove, Marcus Roberts, Nicholas Payton, Mulgrew Miller, Jackie McLean and Dianne Reeves, among many others. The range of styles and approaches represented by that partial list reflects the diversity and adaptability of Rogers’ virtuosic and communicative gifts

Jason Ajemian

Ajemian has acquired a high profile in the improvised music scene over the years, performing with Jeff Parker (Tortoise, Brian Blade) weekly for five years in Chicago, Rob Mazurek's Mandarin Movie, Exploding Star Orchestra (with Bill Dixon); the Chicago Underground Trio/Quartet and Ken Vandermark's Crisis Ensemble. Then to NYC where he's been found with Helado Negro, Marc Ribot's Sun Ship, Matana Robert's CoinCoin & Devendra Banhart. Ajemian's curiosity has ranged far and wide—he's just as comfortable in the hushed, folksy setting of Born Heller, his duo with Josephine Foster, as he is in the breath-processed arrangements of his large ensemble Who Cares How Long You Sink

Adam Lane

Born: September 22, 1868

Combining influences from Duke Ellington, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Melt Banana, bassist and composer Adam Lane stretches the terms "jazz" and "chamber Music" beyond convention. His blend of music and performance art takes listeners on a meticulously orchestrated joyride, with horns, strings, electronics, spoken word, and the occasional vacuum cleaner. As a composer he has been recognized by critics world wide as "innovative" (Signal to Noise) and "forward thinking," (Jazziz) and as a player he has contributed to important new recordings by artist such as John Tchicai and Tom Waits. Forthcoming projects include FO(U)R BEING(S) by the Adam Lane Quartet, featuring John Tchicai, Paul Smoker, and Barry Altschul (C.I.M.P), DUO MUSIC with Blaise Siwula (Cadence Jazz) and NOWHERE ZEN: Chamber Works and Solo Statements (Evander Music), all to be released in late summer 2002

Larry Gray

Born on Chicago’s south side, Larry Gray is considered by many to be one of jazz music’s finest double bassists. His impressive versatility and uncommon musical curiosity keep him in demand as both a leader and sideman. Larry began his musical studies at the age of five when his father brought home an accordion and introduced him to his first teacher. Invigorated by this study, Larry added the guitar to his arsenal and studied piano seriously for many years thereafter. It was not until he was in his twenties that he decided to switch to the double bass. Larry went on to study classical music extensively, eventually adding the cello to his long list of loved instruments

Dave Sharp

Dave Sharp was born in Detroit, Michigan where he was inspired by the city’s rich musical heritage. While earning a degree from the University of Michigan, Sharp became deeply devoted to the study of jazz and improvisation. This led to a move to San Francisco, where Dave studied with legendary bassist Herbie Lewis (McCoy Tyner, Cannonball Adderly, Les McCann) at the New College of California. While living in San Francisco, Sharp performed in art spaces and venues like Cafe Du Nord and the Fillmore, and served as bassist and composer for the modern jazz ensemble the Spheres of Influence

GEMMA'S CAREER AS A MUSICIAN SO FAR... In school assembly one day, a teacher asked if anyone would be interested in playing the double bass. At the time, Gemma didn't have a clue what this was, and thought it was a big drum. She was intrigued, and so volunteered: It was love at first sight! It was so huge, and Gemma liked it because it was different. In spite of the double bass being her third instrument, Gemma took to it like a duck to water, and with the help of her teacher, Jean Graham, she achieved her Grade 8 (classical). At this time, she played with the Walsall Youth Orchestra and the Midland Youth Jazz Orchestra. Throughout her time at university, Gemma did paid pit orchestra work with the Chichester Amateur Operatic Society and played on 'The Merry Widow' with the Littlehampton Player's Operatic Society
