Anti-Rubber Brain Factory & Sameer Gupta
by Maurice Hogue
This episode features two extremely original albums from France, and they couldn't be more different. Guitarist Marc Ducret tackles Shakespeare on his Lady M. He's not the first to look to the Bard of Avon for inspiration (Duke Ellington and Cleo Laine come to mind immediately), but he may be the first one to frame one ...
Art Ensemble of Chicago, William Tatge & Hans Ludemann
by Maurice Hogue
This episode evokes special memories of my first exposure to the Art Ensemble of Chicago many years ago. I was left in awe at the spectacle, let alone the originality and power of the music. We Are on the Edge: A 50th Anniversary Celebration, the new release from Pi Recordings brings that concert and much more ...

Susana Santos Silva Quintet: Devil's Dress
by Dan Bilawsky
The Devil wears many guises, as does the music on Devil's Dress. Trumpeter Susana Santos Silva spans a variety of styles and, while some songs contain a dark presence and power that perfectly suits Beelzebub's reputation, other songs have a brighter outlook that looks upward toward the skies, not downward toward Hades. While ...
