Guillaume de Chassy: Silences

Il pianista Guillaume de Chassy dichiara di ispirarsi ai trii di Jiimmy Giuffre degli anni cinquanta e certamente molti sono i punti di contatto, a cominciare dalla strumentazione che esclude la batteria. L'approccio in questo caso è decisamente più classicheggiante e lo spirito del blues che innervava i dischi di Giuffre è meno presente. Il clima sembra incantato e algido, senza però fare mancare la fiammella della passione.

Il clarinetto di Thomas Savy è preciso e ben calibrato, non ci sono forzature nelle linee melodiche spesso mutuate da composizioni classiche. Anche timbricamente tutto rimane nell'alveo delle buone intenzioni e non ci sono slabbrature, anche perchè in questo contesto diventerebbero caricaturali. Il contrabbasso di Arnault Cuisinier sa bene interpretare il ruolo di àncora ritmica ed armonica e nel contempo si prende licenza, anche con l'archetto, nei momenti in cui è chiamato ad avere un ruolo sulla parte melodica. Il pianoforte del leader è crepuscolare quanto basta. Sempre ben integrato, nelle scelte timbriche, con il suono complessivo del trio.

La capacità di fondersi reciprocamente è davvero l'aspetto più interessante di questo album e i tre musicisti dimostrano di avere grande empatia e grande capacità di ascoltarsi vicendevolmente. Non è una cosa da poco, di questi tempi.
