Toca Loca: Shed

Cominciamo dalla fine. In questo CD c'è una meravigliosa composizione di Frederic Rzewski per piano e percussioni, eseguita magistralmente, che da sola vale l'acquisto.

Si inserisce in una teoria di pezzi che il compositore americano ha realizzato ispirandosi a melodie popolari del passato, variandole ed espandendole con una fantasia ma anche un rigore formidabili. Qui la trama cantabile riguarda un testo irlandese del '600 con un soldato che lascia la sua bella per andare in guerra. Il carattere antimilitarista si afferma imitando proprio i ritmi da parata, rifrangendoli in una miriade di scomposizioni e la ripetizione costante della melodia. Pianoforte e percussioni, con notevoli spazi per xilofoni, glockenspiel e piccoli oggetti, volano sullo spartito, lo caricano di suoni eccedenti, avvolgenti. Un'esecuzione da applauso.

Toca Loca è un ensemble canadese molto in vista nel circuito contemporaneo, che riesce a catturare l'attenzione con un repertorio vivace, lontano dal rigor mortis di molta musica accademica odierna. Il pezzo di Fujikura esalta due pianoforti nitidi, eterei, dalla sintassi liquida. Un impegnativo banco di prova è "Ma'Mounia," scritto dallo svizzero Holliger, pezzo ricco di idee timbriche, mobilissimo nei ritmi, sorprendente. Così come la pagina del canadese Staniland, vicino alla musica concreta, dunque molto materico, anche se anch'esso lontano dai cliché consolidati.
