Laszlo Gardony: Serious Play
Per realizzare quest'incisione Gardony ha pregato l'ingegnere del suono di lasciar andare il nastro, mentre lui dava libera espressione alla sua musica. Il risultato è un piano solo che si snoda con riflessiva profondità, in percorsi in equilibrio tra slanci melodici e il marcato gioco ritmico dei bassi. Accando alle sue libere improvvisazioni (che testimoniano la profonda cultura classico contemporanea del pianista) troviamo tre noti standard ricchi di riferimenti alla tradizione del pianismo jazz. Tra questi c'è nuovamente il coltraniano «Naima» che Gardony incise il quel primo piano solo del 1993: una versione ancora rispettosa dell'equilibrio lirico (introdotta dagli accordi di «Giant Steps») ma colorata da tumultuosi arpeggi.
