Claire Dickson: Scattin' Doll

È una adolescente dal talento molto precoce la cantante che troviamo alle prese con la raccolta di standards contenuta in Scattin' Doll. È stato il padre Glenn Dickson, che qui suona il clarinetto basso in un'originale versione di "Caravan," che ha notato la sua passione per la musica di Ella Fitzgerald ed il talento, veramente sorprendente, se si pensa che all'epoca delle registrazioni aveva fra gli undici ed i tredici anni. Il suo talento è stato pure notato dal Downbeat Magazine che l'ha premiata come "Best Jazz Vocalist, Junior High School Level".

Su questo disco la Dickson è accompagnata da un classico trio con piano/contrabbasso/batteria e, senza timori reverenziali, offre ottime interpretazioni di tanti classici. Da una "My Man's Gone Now," di grande maturità, accompagnata dal solo pianoforte, a "Black Coffee" proprio sorprendente.

Scattin' Doll è un album maturo in cui la sorprendente Dickson, accompagnata da solidi ed eclettici (il pianista McLaughlin e il batterista Rosenthal, fanno parte del notevole gruppo avant-klezmer Naftule's Dream) musicisti della scena bostoniana, conferma l'alto livello medio dei musicisti americani anche di giovanissima età Non resta che farle i migliori auguri!
