Schmittmenge Meier: R.E.A.L.

Come avviene nella maggior parte delle produzioni targate El Gallo Rojo, una delle componenti principali nella miscela che le rende spesso irresistibili, è la gioia, il divertimento del suonare, la musica intesa come gioco.

Si gioca con il materiale sonoro, sottoponendolo a qualsiasi tipo di (mal)trattamento, si gioca con gli strumenti ricavandone i suoni più impensabili, si gioca con i generi (chi se ne frega se si mischia una polka con le frenesie del bop, se un trequarti va a braccetto con una sparata free), si gioca con l'ascoltatore, quanti tranelli, quanti depistaggi disseminati lungo le nove tracce del disco!

E' quello che avviene con questi giovani musicisti tedeschi provenienti da Colonia e da Berlino, che in R.E.A.L. danno sfogo alla propria creatività attraverso una vena che potremmo definire goliardica, per il piacere, il divertimento e l'ironia che la sostengono. Ma non si pensi ad un lavoro sconclusionato e privo di coerenza perché R.E.A.L. possiede una organizzazione compiuta, la scrittura è tutt'altro che opzionale e la logica complessiva del lavoro si inserisce in quel filone del jazz moderno dove tutto è lecito ma niente è casuale.

L'incisione, nella quale fa capolino qua e là un poco di elettronica, è godibile dall'inizio alla fine. Tra blues sgangherati, l'iniziale "Blues per Gerardo Gastello" e il conclusivo "Blues Complot," fanfare tradizionali arrangiate con un pizzico di schizofrenia, "Hanschen Klein," lontani echi mediorientali esasperati dalla libera improvvisazione, "Auseinandersetzung mit dem Islam ," le grottesche avventure di Pippi Calzelunghe, "Pippi Langstrumpf," l'ascoltatore viene sballottato su montagne russe musicali, dove resta a volte senza fiato e con brividi di piacere.
