Radio Shows & Podcasts: Getting Started Guide

All About Jazz helps jazz radio and podcast hosts make their programs easier to discover by presenting and archiving episodes on our platform. Participating shows are featured in our Radio & Podcasts Directory and are included in our dedicated weekly Radio & Podcasts newsletter.

Each episode receives its own All About Jazz article page featuring the episode title, a brief introduction, an embedded audio player and a playlist when applicable.

Before You Begin: Streaming Requirements

To participate, your episodes must be available through a supported streaming or podcast hosting platform that provides embeddable audio players. Supported platforms include Mixcloud, Podbean, SoundCloud, Spotify, AmperWave, Libsyn and Acast.

Important: Programs available exclusively through a radio station's website or live broadcast do not currently qualify. All About Jazz must be able to embed individual episodes so listeners can play them directly from their AAJ article pages.

If your program is not yet available through a supported platform, you'll need to arrange for episode hosting and embedding before beginning the onboarding process.

Once your show meets these requirements, follow the steps below to join our lineup. If you have questions or need assistance, contact Michael Ricci.

Getting Started: Register and List Your Show

• Join All About Jazz. Create a free member account, or sign in if you're already registered.
• Create your show listing. Submit your radio show or podcast information, including your show's logo, description and other requested details.
• Request activation. Once your listing is complete, contact Michael Ricci so your show can be activated and included in the Radio & Podcasts Directory.
• Receive contributor access. After activation, we'll upgrade your AAJ member status to contributor, giving you access to the article submission form.
• Prepare your audio. Make sure your episodes are available through your streaming platform. Mixcloud users can submit an episode URL directly; hosts using other supported platforms can provide the appropriate iframe embed code.

Submitting Your Episodes

• Once your show has been uploaded and published on your preferred streaming or podcast platform, then go to the All About Jazz article submission form.
• Choose "Radio & Podcasts" from the Article Type menu, then click Continue.

Completing the Episode Submission Form

Article Title

Use a concise, descriptive title that gives listeners a sense of the episode's content. Do not include your show's name or episode number, as that information is already associated with your program.

For music-focused episodes, you might highlight three or four featured musicians followed by "and more." Browse published episodes for examples.

Podcast

Select your radio show or podcast from the dropdown menu.

Primary Musician

Choose a musician or band closely associated with the episode. This connects your episode to the musician's page on All About Jazz and helps listeners discover related content.

Article Text

Write a brief introduction of approximately 100–150 words describing the episode, featured musicians, interview guests or musical themes.

For music programs, include a playlist when applicable. You can use the following HTML template, replacing the sample entries with your own track information and time markers. To save time, see our AI-Assisted Playlist Formatting guide, which explains how to use ChatGPT to research and format your playlist. Some cleanup and the addition of time markers will still be required.

Audio Player

If you use Mixcloud, copy your episode URL into the Mixcloud field. For other supported platforms, paste the episode's iframe embed code into the IFRAME field. See the screenshots below.

E-mail Addresses

Enter the email addresses of musicians, record labels, publicists or other contacts you would like notified when your episode is published.

Message to Editor

Use this field to communicate any special instructions, questions or information that needs editorial attention.

Submit and Review

Click Submit to view your episode's article page. Review the title, introduction, playlist, embedded player and other details to make sure everything is correct.

If you need to make changes, click the orange Edit button, make your corrections and save.

Mixcloud Audio Tips

When preparing audio files for Mixcloud, use the following minimum quality settings:

• Bit rate: 128 kbps
• Sample rate: 44.1 kHz
